I need a battery for an Aspire 5740-5255 (model MS2286) but cannot find the part number anywhere. I have tried looking up information on the Acer website, but neither the serial number or SNID return any results.

Does anyone know the part number for the battery in this specific laptop?

Thank you in advance to anyone who replies!

I generally just get an after-market battery from a seller with good feedback and it's always gone pretty well. If you just look up Aspire 5740-5255 battery, you'll likely get dozens of results. I would just make sure you go with a site that has good feedback and a return policy in case there's any issues with it. Some places offer warranties as well, but usually just getting a new battery is cheap enough that I don't worry about that much. I've actually had better luck with every single aftermarket battery I've gotten than I've had with the original battery in every laptop I've owned, so I've never had to re-replace a battery.
I wouldn't worry too much about the specific part number, but I would make sure that what you're buying looks like it's the right size and shape for your computer, and you'll want to make sure the info for the voltage and the like is the same for the replacement battery.

It was replaced several years ago, but I don't remember for the life of me where I got it. I've been trying now for about two weeks and most of what turns up in search results I can tell by looking are the wrong shape. I found one on Amazon that seemed to be the right battery, but it would be completely drained after two hours, and that's without the laptop even being used. They sent a replacement but it did the same thing, and I returned both. Now I'm not having much luck finding another, at least not from anywhere I trust buying from in the event there's a problem. Especially when all the ones I do find refer to their part number :(
