HELIOS 300 - Graphical glitches

I love my Predator Helios 300 an awful lot, but I noticed since I bought it (a year ago) that sometimes when I'm playing a game I get weird black lines and glitches that jitter all over the screen. They do not affect framerate or the ability to play the game, they're just incredibly distracting.

I only RECENTLY realised (to my embarrassment) that it is directly related to the TURBO button which I'll use sometimes if the laptop is running a little warm. Of this there is no question. I've played around and sure enough the glitching occurs and ceases PRESICELY when I activate or deactivate the TURBO function. After a little investigation I think (but am not at all certain) that it could more specifically be tied to the GPU overclocking that you can activate from the PREDATOR SENSE screen (I think - but don't know for sure - that the TURBO button turns on overclocking as well as souping up the fans but I'm not certain about that.

Anyway does anyone know if I should be worried? Is this a sign of something serious or can this be fixed easily?

Thanks in advance.

Have a read of this review of "How Acer Predator 17X’s overclocking turbo mode works and does it matter in real-life usage" here: How Acer Predator 17X’s overclocking turbo mode works and does it matter in real-life usage (laptopmedia.com) as using the 1080p, Max @Turbo mode is moe detrimental in some games than a plus factor, as keeping your settings at Default and/or 1080p, Low or 1080p, Medium is allot better for the laptops performance. That is why you get and as you say "I get weird black lines and glitches that jitter all over the screen" happens, keep your settings at default and/or Low and Med as overclocking without appropriate and ultimate cooling does cause all sorts of overheating frame rates and even shut offs.

Remember, laptops are not like desktops where you can use high end monitors and all sorts of elaborate water cooling, fans etc for cpu/gpu overclocking and or in extreme cases achieve cpu and gpu huge overclocking's rates by using hydrogen cooling. My advice, keep it default, simple and/or if you want any overclocking then you have to increase the cross flow cooling capacity of that laptop and all will work as its meant to be, as you will have no problems.

Thanks for this, I'm away now to read through that article. I appreciate you taking the time.

Just glad that its a known 'thing' and not a sign that something is very wrong with my laptop.
