    The Switch Alpha 12 uses an M.2 SATA SSD in the 2280 form factor. You won't be able to use an NVMe drive, but there's no real limit on the size of the M.2 SATA drive that you install. Mine came with 128GB and I quickly upgraded it to 512GB, which was as big as I could afford at the time.

    If the drive is the 2280 form factor, uses an M.2 interface and is SATA, not NVMe, it will fit the correct slot.
    Here's a fairly high end 1TB example. Ad here is a lower end 500GB example.

    according to this information I am looking for upgrading my SSD for my Acer Swtich Alpha 12..
    I am trying to decide buying one of 2 models..
    for example one of them is "Samsung 860 EVO SSD 1TB - M.2 SATA", and I I know it is compatible..

    Other model I am considering to buy is "SSD M2-SATA 1TB Crucial MX500 2280".
    I was guessing this model is compatible also.. but I saw a page like this;
    https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/TxMY9KU1G6X6MQ/ref=ask_ql_ql_al_hza

    "Micron CPG Customer Service Manufacturer" says Crucial MX300  is not compatible? I could not understand the reason why it is NOT COMPATIBLE??
    now I am doubting about Crucial MX500 also..

    can anyone clarify this point please?
    It this Crucial MX500 compatible or not? (if yes, then was that information about Crucial MX300 false or not?)

    Yeah, the Micron rep there has no idea what works and what doesn't with a SA12. :) 2.5" drive indeed... He thinks it's an older laptop. The Crucial should work just fine, since it's a SATA 3 interface on the M.2 and the 2280 form factor.
