I understand that I cannot use the USB-C for display, however, I am curious as to whether or not I can get 144hz from HDMI, if it supports 2.0

No matter where I look, it tells me I just have an HDMI port, and I'm not as tech savvy as I used to be, so I am not clear on how to achieve 120-144 hz/fps on an external display. Would someone please explain like I'm 5?

Thanks in advance.

To output 1080p content at 144Hz, you will need either a Dual-Link DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI 1.4 cable (or better). However, note that some monitors with HDMI 1.4 are limited to 60Hz or 120Hz.

For 144Hz at 1440p, you will need at least HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 while for 4K 144Hz you are going to need HDMI 2.1 or alternatively, DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC 1.2.

it says cable but means ports aswell so you can get upto 144hz with even 1440P with HDMI 2.0

I got 144hz with my hdmi 2.0 at 1080P but my gpu cant do 144 FPS just 80-100 FPS so i use the 100hz setting. this is for gaming.

    Hi @tkl15

When it comes to high refresh rates, it can be achieved only via a display port cable. It cannot be achieved via a HDMI cable.

Hope it will help you in some way.

Are you sure 120 Hz cannot be done? To my knowledge, HDMI 1.4 can do 1080p @120 Hz

    Hi @tkl15

But it is always better to try with Display Port cable to achieve the high refresh rates.
