 I have a Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7-9750H, GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 16GB DDR4 RAM, PH315-52-710BSo.

My laptops just been hot in general, spiking up to about 80 degrees when playing really bad games like minecraft (graphics-wise), and I was wondering if I should get a cooling pad?

it comes pre undervolted, and im to lazy to apply thermal paste.

I have the same laptop, but the i5-9300H, 17.4 inch version. It does heat up to 85-92 degrees while heavy gaming, I do use a cooling pad. It doesn't make much difference assuming you are playing on a table, however turning on the Air Con or decreasing the game graphics helps.
I play Rocket League at medium settings, it stays under 65 degrees, and GTA V at low-medium combination settings, it stays under 85 with it.

After research I have concluded that above 90 is dangerous, and it is recommended to keep under 85. I keep my fans at max all the time while gaming.

Cooler pad helped me 4 C off and stops climbing.
    Undervolt but mainly Underclock to 3.6gz  helped me 10 C off ( i7 10750H)
repaste 0C- but acers paste job was okay in my case
I recommend a high rpm cooler, 2200rpm 80 mm fans lined up with your laptop fan intake. Has to be directly underneath to get effects.

I 2nd the undervolting, I'm running a Helios 500 and prior to my undervolt I was running GTA V at 1440p with mixed settings and it would peak my CPU @ 80-85C. After the undervolt with my setting with Throttle stop I run around 70-75c. Of course you might lose a little bit of performance but I would rather get better temps in trade for some FPS.

what processor do you have and how much undervolt you recommend? im yet to find the sweet spot on my i7-750H. Just went safe at 110....

Cooling pads do help but most of the cooling pads I have seen are just not powerful. You will need something with about 5000+ rpm to make a difference. Make sure the room you sit in is not very hot and is well ventilated.

The problem with undervolt is that there's not one value that's universal to all processors. On my system, with the i7 8750h I run -175 on the core, and  -130 on the cache. The safe route to start with is going with -110 on Core and Cache and run stress test from there. Of course your results my vary, just be aware there isn't one value that works for everyone.
