For most Acer desktop PCs, try continuously hitting F12 key while booting up. The boot menu will show up.
Since you said "I can't get the system to boot from USB", exactly what you did and what is the error message?

You typically have to go into the BIOS and either add the USB boot image to the trusted list for UEFI or disable Secure Boot to allow booting from an untrusted image. You might also have to turn on the F12 boot menu...

Thank you for your replies. I hope to clarify why I am trying to change the boot sequence.
In the boot menu I moved Windows boot manager from the first place so that Removable Device went to first place. Like I did when using BIOS. Unfortunately the desktop started again as if nothing was changed. Checking further I noticed that UEFI also had a number of priority settings. The Harddrive priority had an item for the first Boot Device in my case it showed Windows Boot Manager.
Being new to UEFI I tried to find information online without success.
FYI I am trying to install an old version of Windows. Running the specific program in Virtual Box was no success and on my previous desktop it worked fine in an dual boot environment.

Which OS version are you trying to install?

Were you trying to install the old version of Windows by a clean installation or you just pull the HDD from your old desktop and  put it to this UEFI PC? Currently, I think the old version Windows is residing on an external USB HDD, is that correct?

If the version you are trying to install is older than Windows 7 SP1 then it doesn't support UEFI boot...

Unfortunately I experienced Disk problems so I had to start from scratch with my backups.

Yeah, XP wouldn't have had the needed drivers for the MB either... Maybe running it a VM?
