Hi all, for a while now (about 6 years I think) I’ve been using my Acer S235HL. Usually I use headphones, but since my nephews like to watch video’s together I wanted to get some speakers.

 Now to my great surprise I found out my monitor is supposed to have built-in speakers. Unfortunately I cannot get them to work properly. I have tried the following:

  • I connected the monitor with an HDMI cable to my computer. I tested the HDMI cable with a different device, should  work fine;
  • The Acer S235HL is recognized as a “sound device” by my computer. I go into sound options and select the monitor as output device;
  • I set my computer volume to max and the monitor volume to max as well;
  • I tried updating sound driver, but it says it should be up-to-date.

 Does anyone know if I’m overseeing something? Thanks all in advance.

    It sounds like it should be working, it wouldn't give you the option as an output if there weren't speakers installed (and you wouldn't believe how many people pick the version that $20 cheaper only to find it doesn't have speakers). I'd be really tempted to just hit up a thrift store and pick up a pair of computer speakers or a 2:1 system. It will likely be under $10-20 and give better sound than the ones that are in the monitor. :)

    Your sound driver is your graphics driver, so you have to update your graphics driver.

    Have you look at the monitor's volume button?

    Yes, the volume is turned to max on both the monitor and the computer. Graphics driver is up-to-date as well.
