Hello everybody,
I have been using a Aspire S3 for many years.
Battery is dead but everything else is ok.
Last week, I unplugged and replugged the AC adapter. Since this non-event, my laptop doesn't boot anymore. Led don't light.
First, I tried to reset CMOS by removing the battery + AC adapter and then pressing + holding the power button for 40 seconds. No result.
Secondly, I bought a new battery but it didn't bring my computer to life.
I'm afraid of a motherboard short-circuit.
What could I try to make it finally light up ?
Thanks for your help.

    Good day My friend.

First of all. If you have other Acer laptops. Kindly check if your Adapter is working. Sometimes the adapter may be the problem not your laptop.
Second, There are chances that the Adapter is okay but the laptop is not. There's a certain instance that the part where the Adapter/Charger Pin connects to the laptop is at fault.
Third, If you bought a battery and that battery still has a charge on it but your laptop still doesn't light up at all. Then it can be that the motherboard is the problem or if it's not the motherboard then it's the power button.
Fourth, If you had change the battery and the adapter is okay and when you plug it on a source. If there's a power indicator on your laptop but you can't turn it on when it's plug then you need to find where the problem is.

    2/ hard to know
3/ it seems that motherboard is involved
    4/ no power indicator
    Thanks for your help.
I'm going to contact the French helpdesk, if they actually agree to fix the old stuff.

Which model do you have? There have been several different S3 models. On some of them the DC-In socket is a separate piece from the motherboard and since the indicator LED is sourced off the MB you can have a perfectly good power supply that doesn't light the indicator just because the power socket isn't actually connected to the MB.

I submit my computer failure to Acer French Support. They just told me to bought a new motherboard.
Before investing in expensive equipment (because no longer produced), could someone explain to me how to clear cmos ?
Is it this process : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfKJ3Mv8COY
What do I have to do exactly with 2 contacts and screwdriver ?
Does it work, even if the laptop doesn't turn on anymore ?
