Hi Everyone, i hope someone can enlighten me. I just bought this new laptop and my ram installed is 8gb w 2933mhz. I bought the same speed in amazon hyperX 8gb 2933mhz. But when I installed the new ram, the performance memory was changed to 2400mhz speed. Should I remove the one that I installed? Because it seems the ram speed that I bought is not the same to the one in my laptop. Please help. Thanks in advance

I am planning to buy nitro 5 i5 10th gen ,8gb ram, 1tb hdd + 256 ssd, gtx 1650 ti ,...AN515-55.. What is the ram frequency ? I want to buy 8gb extra ram , so please tell the frequency of ram given in the laptop. Amazon and flipkart both dont have any detaila about it

When you buy RAM you have to be very careful to check the module timing. Especially the CAS latency timing. That hyperX RAM is likely slower CAS timings and would requires overclocking as CL is lower but the Nitro can’t be overclocked. I’m guessing your CL is at 17?

I ran in to this issue as well when looking to buy RAM, many gaming RAM list 3200 Mhz but are lower base timings such as CL19 which is like running a 2666 Mhz module.

    This is what I bought:

    Crucial 16GB DDR4 3200 MT/s (PC4-25600) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT16G4SFRA32A

    This will also work: CT16G4SFD832A

    Both are CL22 modules.

My original RAM that came installed was 8ATF1G64HZ-3G2J1 from Micron and the Crucial also uses Micron chipsets so it is the best bet for adding modules in my opinion.

Yes, it may not be recommended to install different sized modules by RAM sellers but in reality this motherboard will adjust as long as the modules support the exact same timing specs for all 4 timings. I am now running 24GB in my machine. 8GB in dual channel and remaining 16GB in single channel with no issues all at 2933Mhz.

The final result because of the cpu clock speed is they run slightly slower at 2933Mhz with memory running at CL 21 with timings of
21-21-21-47 rather than at full speed CAS CL22 3200Mhz at 22-22-22-52 the module can handle.

To truly know what your memory modules are doing use cpu-z or HWinfo and look at the four number timings: 21-21-21-47 is for 2933Mhz. As this cpu/motherboard can’t do 22-22-22-52 it isn’t using the full memory speed ability so maybe running slower memory modules you won’t notice too much difference between say 2666 CL19 and 3200 CL22. I wanted the best memory in case I upgrade and might move it to a newer laptop at a later date.

Correction @robgc this is the RAM that I bought. I already returned the one I bought in amazon (hyperX).

Can you confirm if this is ok? It is the same brand and specs of the one that is pre-installed in my laptop. Many thanks bro.

    According to the datasheets here:

    https://www.skhynix.com/product/filedata/fileDownload.do?seq=11561

    https://www.skhynix.com/products.view.do?vseq=3359&cseq=75

Yes the -WM version matches the 21-21-21-specifications and should be compatible running at DDR4-2933 CL21.

It is a different company than Micron.

SK Hynix is a well known good quality memory company that is HQ in South Korea.

Micron / Crucial are HQ in Idaho, USA.

From your comment above it seems the current memory module in your laptop is made by SK Hynix and not Micron? In that case it would be best to match it with the same brand like you have done.

Did you use the HWiNFO software or open it up and look inside to determine what module was already installed?

Hi @robgc, thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, the pre-installed RAM in my Acer Nitro is also SK Hynix but made in China. Nevertheless, still same brand.

I opened my laptop and also installed CPU-Z as per your advice and saw that my CL is 21-21-21.

It is more clearer to me now how my RAM works. Thanks a lot!

Sorry for the late reply :/ Just checked this thread by chance today.

Your best bet would be to put in 2x 16GB modules:
    Crucial 16GB DDR4 3200 MT/s (PC4-25600) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory
Part Name is CT16G4SFRA32A or CT16G4SFD832A
