My Acer Nitro 5 2019 an515-54-58uk's I2C HID touchpad recently just stopped working once again. It's and ELAN Touchpad and the provided touchpad driver for my laptop on Acer's website isn't compatible with mine. I have already posted a thread here before and I Have already tagged it as solved because the provided solutions worked before. Now, none of the solutions before work anymore.

Here is a link to my previous thread.
https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/617387/acer-nitro-5-2019-an515-54-58uk-i2c-hid-device-touchpad-not-working#latest

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi guys. Just an update. I think I've found the problem that caused this issue. A rouge tiny screw inside the laptop. It was from the HDD bay/bracket. Don't knw how it came off as I've only placed a SSD and addional RAM. Haven't touched the HDD.

After putting the screw back and booting the laptop back, reinstalling the mousepad driver, it worked again. Around 3 weeks has passed, the mousepad is still working. No more issues. Grateful the screw didn't cause any long term damage, specially shorting any other parts.

Thanks for the link @batmalin. Unfortunately it says that it isn't compatible.
I fixed it again though. Hopefully this is a permanent fix.

    1.) Uninstalled this 2 i2c host controllers.

2.) downloaded IO drivers installer from acer's website for my laptop model. Opened the installer ad chose the "Repairs errors.." option. Then, restarted my laptop. After the restart, the touchpad worked already.

I'll update if the problem returns.

Hi, I have the same issue. Reinstalling the driver sometimes helps for a short time but then it problem appears again.
I have spend some time playing with it, and now, the one solution that works for me is to disable one Host Controller.
I have all of them on version 30.100.2020.7.

    What I did:
    - touchpad not working so I have disabled Host Controller A368 and A369 (2 all together, did not touch others).
    - touch pad started to work
    - I have enabled back Host controller A639, touchpad keeps working.

Works fine after multiple laptop restarts, lets see for how long :)

Thanks for the info! I'll try this out later when I get home from work. I'll get back to you about the results later.

@Vey Unfortunately your solution doesn't work for me. If you still have any other ideas, please let me know! I haven't been able to use my touchpad for weeks and its really frustrating.

Yeah, it stopped working for me as well. I have a suspicion but will write about it a bit later.
Anyway, today I have installed latest Windows 20H2 version/release via standard Windows Update and touchpad started to work again. I noticed the Host Controller drivers were changed to a version I have not seen before (30.100.2020.7) so maybeeeeee....

Regarding my suspicion, as ridiculously as it sounds, sometimes after a fix, it stopped working when I touch touchpad on a Windows logon screen. Usually, even after multiple restarts, if I touch it only after logging to windows, it was working. But.. I can not confirm if this is really a rule, just some ridiculous idea as I have no other clue what could be happening.

Ok, never mind, I could use touchpad for 1 hour and suddenly it stopped working. No laptop restart in meantime, I was just doing some Word work. Can not find any clue in event manager what happened :/

Me too. All my previous working solutions also dont work anymore. I already tried lots of times and restarts, still nothing. Really tempted to Reformat my laptop, if only I didn't use it for work. Previosly, after it worked, when I let my laptop sleep, it will no longer work after I wake it. Frustrating.

I will try to open an case to Acer support I guess, or send it to their service. Luckily I still have my previous laptop which I can use during that time. I see no other option to make it work :(

Hopefully Acer Support can give us a permanent working solution. Even the Elantech drivers on their website are not recognize as compatible drivers. Hope our frustration ends soon.

FYI, just did a fresh installation of my Windows 10, with removing all the files and new system installation from the cloud, touchpad started to work fine during all that process. Will let you know if it will stop working again.

I did a factory reset before but I might have done it wrong as this time, I did it from boot up menu. This could make some difference as this time, I see more Acer predefined stuff installed than before.

@Vey Thanks for the updates! Really appreciate it! Don't know yet if I can afford to do a fresh install of windows on my laptop since I'm using it for work. I've been thinking about doing it for sometime. Hmm.. I'll think about it if I'll do it this weekend. Hopefully it will be a permanent fix. lol

No worries @Gian_GOKU happy we can cooperate and exchange information on that issue. Thank you for starting this topic.
It is 3rd day since touchpad is working almost fine (it never survived that much :) ). Happened once that it hang but after restart, all was back to normal.
Also once it got off when I touch it on a Windows logon screen after startup but restart fixed it. Since then, I am touching touchpad only after logging to system and it works fine. If it remains like that until Friday, I guess new system installation is worth to consider.

@Vey Sorry for the late reply! Was extremely busy with work and forgot to respond. Yep! This forum is really helpful for this kinds of problem. Good thing found some people that can help me! Thanks bros!

I think this is my 2nd post for the same problem. The first one, they provided me various solutions that worked... for a while. I marked it as solved already, thats why I opened this 2nd post.

Thanks very much for your info! Hopefully one day, soon, I can fresh install my laptop. If only I had extra storage and I wasn't using it for work.
Hopefully you won't have anymore problem with yours! Thanks again!

    Hi 🙂
Yes, reinstall is the option that worked the best. It is not perfect as I still experience some hangs or slower response time but this is rare and simple restart fixes it. So for me, I am fine to leave it with like that as for gaming or more intensive use i have an external wireless mouse anyway.

Good luck and hope it will work for you as well 🙂

@Gian_GOKU  fyi, the issue started to appear more and more often. Restarts do not help anymore, neither disabling the host controllers. I will send laptop to the service

I noticed that restart but with unplugged wireless mouse usb receiver (Bloody R7) also help to reactivate touchpad. But can not say yet if this is a rule or not.
