Power button does nothing after boot (Nitro 5)

I have an Acer Nitro 5 and the power button starts the laptop as expected but after the OS is up and running, the power button does nothing.  I have tried changing power settings but no matter what I set, nothing happens when I press the power button.  I have tried both Hibernate and Sleep as the power button action.

    I figured out part of it.  You have to press and hold the power button to activate the configured action.  Turns out that ACER has overridden the OS control of the power button.  Now, however, I am wondering about another power button function.  Normally, pressing and holding the power button forces a power reset.  This is needed occasionally when the OS locks up.  So, my follow up question is, how do you perform a power reset on a Nitro 5?  Looks like the only way would be to remove the screws on the bottom cover and pull the battery connector.
