Dear altruist,
My Aspire R7-371T is turning off abruptly. My battery is okay. My RAM is built in with the motherboard. The computers get turned off (not shut down. as if someone is pulling out the battery) in irregular interval. It is not overheating too. What can I do?

    >>>My battery is okay. >>>

Go to the elevated command prompt.  Enter 'powercfg   /batteryreport'. Then return to the desktop. Open file explorer. Then search for' battery-report.html' in the c:\windows\system32\ sub-folder. Double-click to open it in the browser. Compare design capacity with full charge capacity. Post screenshot of the top portion of report if possible. Jack E/NJ

OK. Your mainboard may be equipped with a safety switch which cuts all power to the mainboard if the base cover is misaligned, loose or removed. Have you recently had any reason to remove the base cover? Like changing or accessing the battery pack? If not, then tighten all the screws that you find on the base cover. Should be 12 or 13 screws. This may be enough to prevent the switch from suddenly cutting power when the laptop is moved or being used.  Jack E/NJ

Yes. A few pieces of tape on the area of the base cover that presses against this switch should fix the problem. This is a spring-loaded normally off safety switch that must be pressed hard enough by the base cover to keep it in the on state. Jack E/NJ

Shouldn't have turned on if the safety switch popped up like it should. Perhaps it was stuck in the on state position by the  melted foam or weak spring. Better check that it springs up OK when no pressure is appled. Jack E/NJ

All symptoms that you describe, including weird power button behavior, still suggests that  this safety switch is not functioning properly. Also, the connector shown does  not seem to  be properly aligned or loose on the mainboard socket. This needs to be checked. This is risky but I think you must carefully check operation of this safety switch by manually depressing it with a piece of plastic and then trying to power the system to see if it stays on. Here you go sir. By the way, I also tried detaching the battery from the laptop and turned in on using direct power connection. It also gets turned off when it is on direct power connection.

    Dear sir,

Thank you so much. You are such a gem. I can see two buttons when I remove my base cover. One is a white ‘battery reset’ button, which generates a clicking sound when pushed (I have inserted a photo). The second button (black) is little different from the first one. It does not generate any clicking sound when pressed (Photo attached). It’s like a rubber. Inner side of the base cover, corresponding to the second button (the black button), there is little hook (photo attached), which was surrounded by a foam (I removed the foam as it melted). I tightened the screws, but the problem remains. Should I place (or glue something such as a paper) something above the hook so that the height of the hook increases and that it presses the 2nd button (the black button) more strongly?

Great! thank you so much. I will try this and let you know. Just a question out of my curiosity. Once, I turned on my computer when my base cover was removed (I meant opened). My question is if the 'safety switch' must be pressed hard enough, then how could the computer turned on. I can't thank you enough sir.

I tried to put a piece of plastic so that it presses the button hard enough, but it is not working. My laptop keeps turning off. Another problem I often face that is when I press power button to turn my computer on, sometimes I need to press 2 times to turn on the pc. First press only turns on the small indicator light and 2nd press brings the display. But, again, sometimes pressing the power button 2nd time turns the indicator light off and my pc does not turn on. Another thing, when I press the power button, pluging in the power plug the indictor light does not even turn on. The last observation is, when I plug in my charger to charge and keep using my laptop, the charging gets on and off frantically. Please help me solve this weird problem.

I only have 2 buttons. One button is at the top right corner of my mainboard and the other button is near the left (after opening the base cover and flipped) speaker.
