Hi,

I'm new to this forum so sorry in advanced if this is in the wrong place/format/or there are other posts - tried searching could find any.

I recently bought the Predator PO5-615s. Whenever I turn it off at the plug or the power supply switch (after shutting windows down etc), at night, and turn it back on in the morning I'm met with a CMOS checksum error. I can leave the PC turned off, but plugged in, over night and not have this issue. I'm not good with hardware related stuff so not sure what to do, any advice please

S/N: From the image below, the things came with my PC in the box, anyone know what they do?

The CMOS errors usually show up only in much older systems, they are normally an indication the battery that keeps the BIOS settings alive when the computer is turned off has died. Typically it takes several years before that battery dies... Some of the newest designs I've seen on other machines though use the residual power from the power supply to keep the CMOS alive. Maybe they're doing that with the PO5-615s, though it wouldn't make much sense because any time to fully remove power you'd get that message. It's probably worth contacting Acer support about it or swapping the unit with your vendor if it's been a short enough time. The work around until we get it fully figured out is to just not completely pull power. The model is a little too new for the SG to be out, so I can't dig in deeper yet.
I believe that cable/header combo has something to do with lighting up LEDs. Are both ends of the cable the same? Maybe an extension?

@billsey, thanks for getting back to me.

I looked through the acer support site for updates - any updates present have nothing relating to BIOS updates ( I tried googling up CMOS errors, it did suggest the battery needed replacing - I'm going to struggle doing this / so was hoping it was something else.)
Going to contact Acer support first if not will try and see if I can replace/repair it afterwards. Hopefully it's as simple as you need to leave it on over-night as well (I can live with that, it won't use much power after all.) Not sure what SG stands for (setup guide is my guess) but if you can find out anything at all that would be great .

Both ends of the cable are the same, and the PC already has functioning LED lights (which I've opted to turn off at the moment), so possibly an extension but I don't see why I would need those? Maybe a replacement cable? I'm not sure either.

My guess is the CMOS battery isn't fully seated in the socket, or has a piece of paper or plastic or something stuck between the battery and the socket. But let's see what Support has to say... SG is the Service Guide, which isn't available to the public, but the Aces here are allowed to post snippets.
