I have an Acer Aspire One D270-28Dws. After seeing a number of instruction videos on YouTube, I decided to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 4GB and the original 320GB HDD to a 120GB SSD. I had been running Windows 10 Home (upgraded from Windows 7 Starter) without problems, but was adviced to do a "clean" install, so I used Microsofts Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB-stick with Windows 10 Home. I followed the instructions from the videos and the changeout of the RAM and the HDD went as planned. I plugged in the USB-stick, went into BIOS and altered the boot order and restarted. Instead of the expected installation, I got a message saying "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". I tried copying the contents of the USB-stick to an external hard disk and tried booting again, but no improvement. When I went back into the BIOS, I also noted that it stated only 1GB of RAM. I still have the old hard drive unaltered, but my hope is that I don't have to put it back again, since I upgraded to improve performance. The CPU is an Intel Atom N2800.

Any advice on how to proceed?

    Edit to my original post:

I tried booting from a USB-stick with Linux MInt 19.3 Cinnamon 32bit, and this worked just fine. I'm running Mint from the USB-stick, without installing. According to System Information now 2.9GB RAM is visible, but under Hard Drives it states 3.9GB.

Sounds like the MCT didn't do a good job. Try it again but with Rufus instead. If that doesn't work maybe your system is old enough to not have UEFI boot. If that's the case you are going to want to go the route of cloning the old HDD to the new SSD so you don't lose your activation key.

For some reason the machine wouldn't boot from teh USB drive. I tride another USB drive with Linux Mint and the machine would boot without problems. After a long journey via Linux mint I now have Windows 10 installed on the machine.
