I have a TC 780 with R02-A1 BIOS. Acers BIOS update page for my model shows 6 updates ending with R02-B2 on 7-12-2018. Are all of these full updates or are some just fixes and which one should I use?

You should really only do a BIOS update when you are experiencing a problem that the update addresses. History has shown that's it's too easy to screw it up and brick your MB. But, in answer to the question, each update is the full meal deal, there's no incremental versions. Your motherboard chipset is designed for the 7th gen Intel processors and you can't install a 8th gen, 9th gen or 10th gen in it.

Your MB is a pretty standard DTX form factor, that's the next size smaller than a uATX, but they use the same mounting holes. IIRC there are four empty slots in the case and only two slots on the MB, so the case likely also fits the uATX size. I doubt you could go bigger than that, but these days you almost have to go into a server board to get the bigger sizes... Be aware you will likely also have to replace the memory.

Also my TC 780 has a i5 7400 CPU with socket LGA 1151. Will my motherboard support an upgrade to a i7 9700 CPU with the same socket?

Thanks for the info, billsey. Sooo, what MB would you recommend for the i7 9700k 3.6ghz CPU I just purchased, that would fit the same footprint as my original?

    The 24GB of DDR4 wouldn't support say a Z390 MB?

IIRC the Z390 supports gen 8 and gen 9, so your 9th gen should work. What speed is your 24GB of memory? I believe your 7th gen system uses DDR4-2133, so that's likely what's in there. The Z390 chipset uses 2666 instead, so you'll need to upgrade to the faster speed. I don't think you can downclock the chipset enough to run at 2133...

I ended up ordering a ASUS B365M Plus gaming micro ATX. Will that fit and would my RAM work?

According to their spec sheet it should. They say it supports 9th gen chips and runs with 2133MHz as the lowest memory speed. :) Let us know how it works out.
