Acer Chromebook (CB3-431) will drop HDMI external TV after a few minutes (black screen)

Hello.

I connected my CB3-431 to my Samsung HD TV with an HDMI cable, and the screen will go black after a few minutes, and there's no way to make it return unless restarting the Chromebook. The TV is selected as an extended display in Settings.

It's important to point out that both cable and TV work correctly because I can connect a MacBook Pro with the same cable and have not experienced any problems at all.

The Chromebook OS is up to date: Version 84.0.4147.136 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Did this happen suddenly for no apparent reason? If it's always been this way, what happens when you turn the TV off for a few minutes, then turn it back on?  Jack E/NJ

    Hi!

Yes, it happened out of the blue. I tried the usual fixes: open/close the browser, restart the computer, unplug/plug the cable from both laptop and TV, etc. I gave up that same night. However, the past two nights, I've been able to watch for hours without any interruptions. The only complaint I have is the bit of lag I get every once in a while; the image will freeze for a moment while the audio continues correctly, it syncs up in matter of moments. The whole thing is very weird. Thank you for your interest and input!

Heh-heh. Welcome to digital AV signals. This happens nearly everyday around here with digital broadcast & cable TV. No chromebooks or PCs involved. I either have to reboot the TV or change to another channel to check that the TV's LCD screen hasn't failed. Not your grandfather's analog signals anymore, where you at least saw a snowy screen when the signal was interrupted due to gremlins, weather or whatever.   :)   Jack E/NJ

Guess what? Last night the problem arose again. Just a few minutes in and the extended screen went black, nothing could bring it back but a full restart. It's almost as if it depended on the ChromeBook's mood. This is so odd. I closed the ***** thing and hooked my MacBook Pro, and not a single issue was had; same cable, same TV. It's just faulty Acer tech, I think.
