    Dear Jerome123,

It had been more than a decade that I hadn't been running CHKDSK command and I even threw away my DOS command manual. Kind of forgetting the parameters to be used.

This time try this (as the PC tried to remind us to use this parameter):

    Chkdsk /f

; I believe that/f stands for fixing, should have better result.

And I have a video of it, but this platform can't send video in here. Do you have email? So I can send the video to you.

And whenever I try "chkdsk /f" It said that "Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is  in use by another process".

    Dear Jerome123,
According to the model number, yours is a 1TB Segate Technology Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD.

Want to know what is preventing the Chkdsk to run. How about open up Task Manager and open up the "Processes" tab first before running the chkdsk/f.

You can attach file instead of attach image (just next to it).

    Dear Jerome123,

Looks like you may need a system repair disk in the future.
    Control Panel->System and Security->Backup and Restore(Windows 7) .
At the left panel, select Create a System Repair Disc
If your PC has a DVD drive, insert a blank DVD disk in the drive and then click "Create Disc".
Or you can use a blank USB flash drive of at least 8GB capacity in NTFS format instead of a DVD disc, and select the USB flash drive.

The DVD disk or the USB flash drive can be used as boot device

It said file format is not allowed

What do you mean by opening "Processes" in Task Manager before running the "chkdsk /f" in command prompt?

I have seen people here attaching videos though I haven't tried that.

In task bar search field, type: task manager, entering it you will see a window with different tabs at the top. One tab is "Process".
You can see what "process" or program is/are being run now, such as the chrome browser, the windows explorer...etc.

I want you to keep that tab open, shrink the window size somewhat so it is not occupying the whole screen.
Now go to command prompt and try that chkdsk /f again. It is strange that you could run chkdsk before without the /f , but later on something prevented it from running.

I did that later this morning I remove all the apps running in my computer except for the task manager but same thing just happened. After running "chkdsk /f in the command prompt, the command prompt back in "C:\WINDOWS\system32>" then I restarted the computer in start button.

    Dear Jerome123,

Seemed to me the previous scan disk never completed.See if the following method can help.

In task bar search field type "Disk Management"
Single click and highlight your C: drive
In the top "Action" tab, select "Rescan Disks"
    Wait for it to complete.

Go prepare the repair disc/USB flash drive. You may need that if that Rescan Disk doesn't work.

This is what happened when I did what you said. I wait here 5 minutes

    Dear Jerome123,

When you respond to us, can you just "Leave a Comment" instead of "reply"?, so the original message will not be repeated and occupying space.
Resolution of the video is too low, cannot tell what's going on. Why don't you tell me from the lower screen of the "Disk Management", did it indicated if the primary partition is "Healthy" or not.

If you do not provide more information, kind of hard to help you.

Go back to the previous problem that the PC did not allow chkdsk /f. Did it give you an option  to "Force Dismount on This Volume ? (Y/N) . If this option is available , enter "Y". I tried this option with my PC using the "Repair Disk". My PC is fine, so no further action was taken. Your case is different.

I'm sorry about that I'm just new here in the acer community.

The indication in the lower Disk Management said "Healthy"

After I run the "chkdsk /f" in the command prompt, it said that "Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? Y/N " then I entered "Y". After that I wait 10mins then I restarted the computer.

But same thing just happened when the computer is restarting, the "To skip disk checking, press any key within 8 second(s)" and the "Scanning and repairing drive (C)..." shows, but there is no progress report or percentage of completion.

    Jerome123,

Have you prepare a repair disk/USB flash drive?

As last resort, boot up from DVD disk/USB flash drive.
From lower left corner, select "repair PC"
Select "Command Prompt" and do the chkdsk /f from there

When I tried with my PC, the PC did not ask me to "schedule check next time", just gave me the chance to "Force dismount on this volume". <y/n>.

Otherwise, you may need to change your HDD to a new SSD or restore to new factory condition. Hope other people can help you.
