I have dual boot the Acer aspire 7(comes with 512ssd) with Ubuntu 20.04.1 , Ubuntu got installed with 100gb space.afterwards, when I tried switching to windows while booting, I got BSOD error., Showing it will restart itself for troubleshooting. When it restarted, I choose Advance options --> Troubleshoot --> Command prompt

After command prompt got opened in blue screen, I tried this command

bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal

And then

bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot

This is sucessful.

But then when I tried boot windows 10 again, it not even showing troubleshooting windows , system got stucck at " preparing for Automatic repair" and its going infinite loop which is is suspended by long pressing power button and then going to Ubuntu now.

Ubuntu is totally working now. but windows is not working for changing that AHIC is SATA mode in Main tab of BIOS.

How to revert that option back to make windows 10 work fine , along side Ubuntu working as dual OS??

If I have to change any registry, how to change now?

I have set safe mode boot , so I can't even open cmd through trouble shoot now.

Please guide me.Its new brand new laptop and I don't want to loose genuine windows 10 OS

  • Try changing sata mode to ahci and create a password on setsupervisorpassword to disable secureboot. Check if the problem still occurs.

    Thanks for the reply @egydiocoelho
Ubuntu got installed only after changing that SATA mode to AHCI in windows BIOS.
Then only Ubuntu was able to find out SSD to install.
I did that(changing SATA mode to AHCI) before ubuntu installation.
Problem now is I can't even able to enter the bios or boot menu(F2 or F12 key) while booting to windows after system restart ot power off and power ON.
What is that setsupervisorpassword and where to it set it to disable secureboot?
  • Try disconnecting the ssd from the main board. Then, access the bios and change the sata mode to ahci.

Try disconnecting the ssd from the main board. Then, access the bios and change the sata mode to ahci.
That sounds too complex and I am total beginner in this booting and OS level changes. It new laptop which bought 2days back itself, don't know how to disconnect SSD from board and warranty might not work if something goes wrong while doing board level changes.
Could you please suggest some other way around?
  • what is the exact model? example an515-51-75kz.

    Hi @egydiocoelho,

    Issue has been solved.
I opened Ubuntu, checked whether iwndows is there or not usign suod fdisk -l,
After confirming whether windows is there.
I ran sudo update-grub to include windows boot loader while grub came in screen,
    I followed this video https://youtu.be/sueumjgGFkA

After that, restart the system and choose windows boot loader now.and while windows trying to load, just click F2 continuously, to enter windows BIOS.
Then reverted back the SATA mode to default Optane without RAID that comes with laptop, from changed option "AHCI" .
Then press F10 to save and exit to continue to windows 10 ,
While loading windows now will give you troubleshooting screen, RESET your device if you want fresh(if no important data is there, since mine is new laptop, you can keep your files in C drive and can reset) and there you go, system will start installing windows and go through that process step by step.
Now you will be able to open both windows and Ubuntu parallels.
