Predator Helios 300 random shut down when gaming or doing multimedia works (even when ac power's on)

Hello,

I had this issue where my laptop used to randomly shut down when it's on battery - then I fixed the battery hardware thing where I put a screw on the button.

I reseted the PC, cleaned its fans and updated BIOS... Now it unexpectedly shuts down when gaming, video editing or working on adobe after effects. (even when the ac power is on).

When turning it on after an unexpected shutdown the keyboard takes serval patterns of turning on and off until the laptop boots.

My laptop was running fine for over 2 years! This is a new issue... I don't even know where the problem is coming from... Sometimes it shuts down when it's not even that hot!

How do I fix this? Updated all drivers and done everything mentioned in this forum.

First, make sure all cover screws are tight and the covers are not misaligned. Jack E/NJ

They are all tight and perfectly aligned.

Have you been monitoring the cpu/gpu temperature? If yes, how hot do they get? Jack E/NJ

Temperatures are OK. Thus the problem is likely related to the mainboard's safety interlock switch. It's a spring loaded normally off switch that's usually located around the RAM slots. It's purpose is to cut all power to the mainboard when you remove the cover or the cover isn't pressing hard enough against the switch to keep it in the on position especially when using the keyboard or touching the machine. It then will randomly shut off.

So you must remove the bottom cover again. Then search for this spring loaded switch. You can then tape a spacer to the top of the switch button or on the bottom cover so that it will press harder on the switch when you screw the bottom cover back on.

Thank you so much for intending to help.

I hope you read my question very well. What you mentioned was due a (previous problem) that I fixed and fully aware of. The button you're talking about is perfectly aligned and screwed! My issue happens even when the computer is plugged in the charger. Mostly when playing games or video editing.

Yes. I understood that. But my question is did you add the taped spacer on either the button or inside the bottom so the cover presses the button harder? The unexpected shutdown is an improper shutdown. So it is normal for Windows boot process to take some time to auto repair disk errors created when the files were left open. You should get telltale throttling behavior in heavy load gaming or editing just before the laptop shuts off due to temperatures exceeding about 94*C. You are no where near that temperature level. I'm also having this challenge. At first I thought it was thermal, so I had it professionally cleaned and re-pasted (I know, I know, but I work full time/go to grad school/have a 10-month old) and got a cooling pad. I've also optimized windows and undervolted using Throttlestop. BIOS is updated, and I did a clean install a few months ago. Does what appears to be a thermal shutdown at only about 60 C, unless it's unplugged. I didn't know that would damage the battery, so I'd better stop. What can be done?

mahicks2 this is an old thread and its dead please open a new thread regarding your own issue and the full model number if u read the solution posted here in this thread and nothing worked check your battery wear with hwinfo or battery bar pro if more than 20% consider replacing its faulty you could try to recalibrate it to see if improves

I think I have the same problem. When running heavy games programs will stop to respond and everything will freeze, then it'll shut down. Temperature was around 80-90 C

I do have a warning on my SSD... Sometimes after freezing and shutting down it'll say there's no bootable device.

In my case it might be a problem on the SSD.

I don't know if your problem could be the same. And I don't know how to fix it.
