Turn on power, get ACER screen, shortly thereafter it then says Preparing Automatic Repair below the ACER logo.  Then goes to choosing keyboard.  Select US and hit enter.  Next screen is Troubleshoot or Turn off PC options....select Troubleshoot.  Next screen has six options.  Select Startup Repair.  It says Diagnosing PC, then Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC.  Then try Uninstall Updates with two options - quality and feature.  Tried to uninstall both with the response being it ran into problems and could not uninstall either.  Tried UEFI Firmware Settings.  After hitting enter it goes to the Setup Utility.  Don't really know what to do do with it.  Tried System Restore.  Get box that says to restart computer, select operating system and select system restore.  It just goes back to the beginning.  Try System Image Recover.  It scans and says there is no system image on the computer.  Can also go to command prompt, but do not know what to do at that screen.

Thoughts what to do next?

You may need to reset Windows, I'll defer to you to someone that know the intricacies of the Alt+F10 system Acer has, @JackE for example.

And if all else failed, you could try reinstalling Windows anew, I wrote a guide on how to do it cleanly, although I'd consider that a last resort kind of thing maybe because I'm sure you have files in there you'd wish to save first: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/893916/#Comment_893916

If you get to the point where you need to get your data out of there and you don't have an external enclosure where to put the disk that is inside the computer, but you have an external drive where to put the data; there's another thing that can help here: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/898891/#Comment_898891

But let's not get ahead of ourselves and wait until someone that knows how Acer's recovery system works; because I'm more of a hands-on-approach than relying on automated means for these sorts of things. I've seen them fail enough to know not to rely on them (but treat it as anecdotal and with a grain of salt).

Thanks for the info.  I will read the threads you posted and read up about an external enclosure.  I do have a WD My Passport Ultra.  There definitely is data to maintain.

No problem, but if you have an external drive with enough space to hold the data you'd like to save it would be a good idea to start copying it over there already.

If you are able to access the system later on somehow it would have been but a little time lost, and if not you'd already have your data safe, or part of it at least.
