I have a six-year-old Acer Aspire E15, model E5-571-323F from Currys PC World. I'd like to upgrade the HDD to an SSD drive. Has anyone done this? If so, is there a separate slot for the SSD drive or will I have to remove the HDD drive completely and put the SSD in its place? Ideally, I'd like to keep the original drive in place for storage purposes. Thanks.

There are several videos of people with your model (E5-571, the -3223F is the sub-model part that indicates its configuration) with various guides on how the procedure goes.

From what I could see, there is no M.2 suitable for SDDs, so it would have to be a SATA SSD and you'd have to replace the drive you currently use. Here is a search result: https://www.youtube.com/results?gl=US&search_query=E5-571+SSD

However, I see you have a DVD drive reader/recorder, if you don't use it anymore there are caddies that go in there and you could add your current drive to it as a secondary drive instead of having the DVD drive. It is a SATA interface as well, but it is generally slower because the requirements for those drives also are. So instead of SATA III it'd be SATA II, but it's worth considering.

That's right, try to keep safe for you and your beloved ones.

As for the internal drive you have, you can always put it in an inexpensive SATA to USB enclosure and you'd gain a portable drive for storage ;).

To reinstall Windows in the new disk, you can either clone it or install anew. I vote for the second, mainly because I prefer to have clean bases without potential things that can conflict; but any option is perfectly valid. If you do go for a clean install, this guide may help: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/893916/#Comment_893916

    Thank you, @aphanic
I want to keep the DVD drive, so SATA it is. Being a more mature person, I have a lot of CDs and DVDs around, and they're useful to have on trips away (not that I'm doing many of those in these Covid-19 times).
