I currently have 2G DDR3 RAM installed on my laptop.
I wanted to upgrade it to 8G, so I bought 2x Kingston 4G DDR3 ram.  KCP316SS8/4
As soon as I put it in and restart my computer, it doesn't want to start up Windows, and gives a hardware error at the BIOS.
I was reading through the internet, and a suggestion was to upgrade the BIOS, but I am scared of doing that.

What could be the problem?

    Hi,
Could you please tell us the OS version, whether it's 64bit or 32bit, have you tried inserting one by one checking in both slots? I don't think you need to update BIOS, also please provide the make and model of the current modules installed.

Hi. I have tried 1 card at a time, but only in the slot that original memory was in, but had the same problem. Currently it is 2GB Samsung M471B5773CHS-CH9. My OS is 64 bit.

What I do see is that the Samsung is 1333MHz and the Kingston is 1600MHz

Yes, your Kingston memory is 1600 MHz / PC3-12800, the laptop supports a maximum memory speed of 1066, not 1600MHz. You can use either 800MHz or 1066MHz though they should both be the same speed if you put two modules in. The chipset supports 1333MHz, but Acer doesn't specify that as an option, so trying that faster memory might work and might not.
