So, I was trying to replace the thermal paste of my laptop ph315-52. Used rubbing alcohol(well, the pads found in medicine stores). Cleaned off the cpu and gpu chips nicely but when trying to clean the heatsink.. this happened.

The thermal paste wont come off the heatsink and it appears to be badly scratched. Tried rubbing for a good while now but the paste isn't coming off. Anything I can do?

Forgot to add.. i didnt scrap off the paste before rubbing it. Didn't think it would become a huge issue. Is it salvagable? I am freaking out right now.

Those are scratches on your heat sink. I had the same on mine except not as bad (it came like this from the factory). I also thought it was dried up factory thermal paste or something but no...it was scratches from the factory.

That takes a load of my mind but will it affect the thermals? Repasted with mastergel maker and got a solid 9-10 degree drop across both cpu and gpu but was wondering if I could've gotten more.

That's a good question. My guess is that it wouldn't make a huge difference. But considering it's a new product, it really shouldn't be scratched that bad.

A 9-10 degC drop is pretty good after a repaste and shows that it is working better.

raisul2012 i would really advise you to get a replacement heatsink thats really not good at all in my view also all thermal paste will come off with IP alcohol 99% no matter how dry it is nothing should be scratched in any way just wiped with alcohol i usually use cotton buds/balls if you havent done the scratching yourself and the laptop was new that means it was already defective but i seriously have my doubts that any manufacturer would replace that under warranty (as they will not allow anyone to repaste it themselves if you would said  you have done it warranty would be automatically voided u can do it but not letting them know about it and neither breaking any seals) if it was not u it was done on purpose by someone and theres no way to proof of who was it unfortunately personally i would really replace it but its up to you if you need the exact part number juts post the full model number and i will get it for you anyway good luck :)

My exact model is PH315-52-78VL. I would be grateful if you could get me the part number. But... If I am getting good temps already should this really be a concern? I am not running a risk of damaging my components somehow, am I?

Warranty is a no go for me as it was imported from us by a friend of mine.
