What is new or great about the 2020 Acer Predator Helios

First let's look at the 2019 ACER Predator Helios 300 models:

PH315-52-78VL  15.6”, 144Hz 3ms IPS Display, Blue keyboard Lighting, I7-9750H, GTX 1660ti, 16GB 2666MHz,  256GB m.2 SSD, MSRP $1199, sale $999 USD.

PH315-52-72RG  15.6", 144Hz 3ms IPS Display, Zone RGB Keyboard , i7-9750H, GTX 1660ti, 16GB 2666MHz, Western Digital 512GB m.2 SSD, MSRP $1,499.

To have Zone RGB and 256GB will cost additional $300 more than base model. OUCH!

PH315-52-72EV  15.6", 144Hz 3ms IPS Display, Zone RGB Keyboard, i7-9750H, RTX 2060, 16GB 2666MHz, Sandisk 512GB m.2 SSD, MSRP $1,599.

PH315-52-75DE  15.6", 144Hz 3ms IPS Display, Zone RGB Keyboard, i7-9750H, RTX 2060, 16GB 2666MHz, Samsung 512GB m.2 SSD, MSRP $1299. Date of Mfr. Oct. 2019.

Why is the 75DE $300 less than 72EV is unknown since both are rather identical. Only known difference is WiFi. 72EV has AC 1550i WiFi and 75DE has Killer AX-1650 WiFi. Note to the wise. Models with the RTX 2060 have roughly a 4.6 percent in performance gain over the GTX 1660ti. Almost no one uses Ray Tracing, so why get RTX 2060. Caution: RTX 2060 has a bug or flaw that may cause Windows to lock up/ freeze, cause tearing during game play and possible artifacts.  The RTX 2060 has no fix and nVidia is not going to fix it. ACER is using the RTX 2060 since it is cheap as nVidia wants to rid of them ASAP.

PH317-53-79KB  17.3”, 144Hz 3ms IPS Display, Zone RGB Keyboard, i7-9750H, RTX 2070 Max-Q, 16GB 2666MHz, 512GB m.2 SSD, MSRP $1,899.

New 2020 Acer Predator Helios:  really insignificant upgrade. Use of faulty nVidia RTX 2060, same low power 57.28Wh battery, CPU has same lame Intel 14nm architecture since 2018 as they only increasing the Turbo clock.  What do i7-8750H, I7-9750H and i7-10750H have in common the number 750. Whoopee, you get a higher Turbo frequency in same 6 core 12 thread processor.

Sorry, no RTX 2080 Super Max-Q  for 2020 Helios 300 15.6 inch display models but at least the RTX 2070 Max-Q is available. If you want to pay big money.  Who care about the 10th Generation i7-10750H just a tad better than i7-8750H, or having a messed up and buggy RTX 2060, having to deal with low battery life, IPS display that still have Backlight Bleeding, AC Adapter that gets hot, no Thunderbolt 3, no SD Card reader, low Adobe RBG, poor color gamut, only 300 NITS. Wished for a glass Touchpad rather than plastic. The 2019 chassis even looked better. 1 nice change was placing the AC Adapter plug to the rear on the 2020 model.

Best to buy a 2019 Helios 300 with GTX 1660ti base model for maybe $800 on eBay. Unless you can afford big dollars $$ for the 2020 with RTX 2070 Max-Q. You will not want the flaky RTX 2060.
Maybe you will consider the ACER Triton 300 or 500. Possibly Razer Blade 15 Pro, Lenovo Y740, or MSI models as long as it does not have the RTX 2060.

Hey, what's that about buggy rtx2060? Got my curiosity there... any links with more information?
I have read several comments, watched YouTube videos, been to other forums regarding the 2019 Helios 300 with RTX 2060. After reading more than 6 complaints about the RTX 2060, I have concluded that nVidia had supplied many faulty RTX 2060's to ACER and other manufacturers. My daughter has the 2019 Predator Helios 300 PH315-52-75DE with the RTX 2060 paid $1,299 USD on Amazon for it. Neither of us play PC video games, no Xbox or Playstation. We do not play any games. In 2001, on my Compaq Presario desktop played Diablo and Diablo II Lord of Destruction until late 2005. Only games I play for years have been Internet Spades, Hearts and Solitaire.
I have run several Benchmarks on her Helios 300. Unigine Heaven, Unigine Superpostion, Cinebench R15 and R20, 3DMark Advanced, Geek 5, AIDA64 Pro, and Realbench. With Unigine and 3DMark I've noticed some minor tearing therefore, I do believe the claims made by others to be true. Also Undervolting the i7-9750H of -125mv (pre factory set) you still get Thermal Throttling and Power Throttling. Using Intel Extreme Utility Tool and / or ThrottleStop  the symptoms are still there. Intel has us believing PERFORMANCE is Better when Undervolted. More lies. Intel can not produce a processor that does not get hot in a laptops. This is why I have never owned a laptop. I DIY build desktops since 2008. Both my daughters have had 3 laptops in the last 7 years (2013 to 2020). Recently my oldest is 25 uses the Helios 300 75DE above other age 20 uses a ASUS TUF FX504GD-ES51. I have always insisted that a laptop must have Intel CPU and nVidia dedicated Graphics and to have full keyboard with numeric keys (sacrifice on distance and size of keys somewhat). Using a laptop with integrated GPU just sucks better off getting a cheap tablet for under $200 which is like having a Smart Phone. A laptop without dedicated GPU is garbage. Also today need an IPS Display. Forget those 60Hz TN panels that have poor viewing angels. I don't use AMD products. I have in the past had bought GPU's such as R9-280X, HD6780's and HD3780's. nVidia just makes more reliable/ dependable GPU' s than AMD (formerly ATI). Threadripper was a threat to Intel in 2015 or 2016. But that has passed. My suggestion to people would be to avoid buying a system with nVidia RTX 2060 and go for RTX 2070 Max-Q and RTX 2080 Super instead. The GTX 1660ti is very good for nearly last 3 years. It's not capable of Ray Tracing but who cares ... Ray Tracing has very limited uses.

Well i can just say the asus TUF series its a complete garbage asus should be ashamed of themselves for releasing such garbage damaging their brand but hey its their choice i wouldnt want one not even for free :P the only manufacturer that are competing at acer levels for a few years now its msi theres no any other similar :) i can also add that theres no point in spending money on a laptop with a rtx because rtx games are not even properly developed only a handful of them which its nothing maybe in the next 3/4 years yes but for now 1660ti its the way to go for those who really dont care much about rtx or the new super.

Scottyat5 intel didnt make anyone believe that undervolting was better their xtu software its garbage settings wont stick the only true undervolt its done with TS and even all acer pre undervolted models can be pushed up further the undervolt settings are just the recommended stable they dont mean they are the best neither they are the max the cpu can stand each cpu has a different undervolt limit even if the same model its the silicone lottery thats why to find the best it has to be done manually until the sweet spot is found and acer was the first and only manufacturer to pre undervolt the cpus on stock because they listened to the customers reviews no other did anything similar and now on the new 2020 cpus seems intel has blocked the undervolt via microcode because they realised all ppl was undervolting the cpus to lower the temps and apparently its bad for their business lol so it will be much harder to lower temps until someone finds a way to bypass it the 10th gen cpus are heaters :p also windows need to be properly optimised undervolting doesnt work alone by itself and some cases repasting its the only solution because the stock paste was not applied properly also the gpu can also be undervolted with msi AB curve if needed :)
