Shelby1, one useful trick I've found is running dxdiag to detect capabilities on your Display adapter and the monitor.

    1. press and hold the window's key (usually between CTRL and ALT) and press R and release to open the "run" dialog.
    2. then type dxdiag and press enter.

If it asks to check "WHQL" digital signatures, let it. All it is doing is verifying that your drivers are digitally signed and guaranteed to be provided by the manufacturer or Microsoft.

Looking online at your specifications for your monitor, I don't see any reference regarding any speakers or 3.5mm audio jack.
    Searched Acer's site

    I hope this helps.

@shelby1 there are several different V246HQL monitors. Which one do you have? Usually the ones that have speakers in them cost a few dollars more.

Thanks. It would appear our monitors does not do sound. External speakers on our laptop will be our option.

Yeah... At least usually the external speakers are better than the little ones they fit in the monitors. :)
