I have an Acer Aspire E 15 that is printing keys multiple times randomly as if I was holding down the key. I first thought it was a stuck key so I cleaned w/Compressed air but still no good. And then I noticed that at same time there was an Update of HID 1.0.0.5. I tried removing the HID devices in Device Manager and rebooted but still no good. Once I start typing I get something like " teeeeeeessssssssssssssstttting" output when I just typed "testing" in a field. Also if I type several letters and stop most times it will print last letter multiple times. Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Open DeviceManager. If there are no red or yellow warnings, click 'keyboards' folder. Right click 'standard ps/2 keyboard'.  Click 'uninstall'. Exit DeviceManager without re-installing anything.  Shut down Windows normally. Then turn the machine back on and let Windows automatically re-detect and re-install the keyboard driver. Jack E/NJ

Did that already. thanks. I reinstalled the keyboard, mouse, touchpad drivers. Also hit keyboard with compressed air. I'm thinking at this point is keyboard failure. Does anybody have a link to replacing this model's keyboard? How hard is it? Thanks again.

What do you mean "I re-installed". Did you uninstall and then let Windows, not you, reinstall? Jack E/NJ

Sorry I meant I uninstalled all drivers as per above and restarted Windows to let it rediscover device.  I also plugged in an old USB keyboard and that was recognized by Windows and works fine. Do you think its the laptop keyboard or a software issue?

At this point, I don't think it's a software driver issue. Let's try this test. Shut the machine off. Press & hold F2. Then while still holding F2, turn the machine on. The BIOS menu should appear. Go to the security tab. What happens when you enter a supervisor password? Does it still repeat inside the BIOS? Don't actually save the password. Just exit the BIOS menu without saving. Jack E/NJ

Yep same symptoms. Sticky keys happening as I type a password.

Keyboard hardware failure. Key springs (some might be made of plastic) seem weak or broken. How many keys are involved? If it's mainly vowels and frequently-used consonants, probably just from the wear and tear of banging away at the keyboard. Jack E/NJ

Seems like random keys. But maybe mostly vowels. Do you have link for a place to buy the part? Is it something I can attempt? Guy in my neighborhood wants $150 to fix. That seems like a lot.

Google the part no is 6B.GDZN7.028. It's includes top cover.  About $60 from places like newegg. You can also replace just the keyboard for less than $20 but it's a lot of work trying to affix it to the top cover since it involves melting/welding plastic tabs in many places. Jack E/NJ

Thanks so much for everything. Would you happen to have a link to a video? I found one but video doesn't show keyboard being taken out for a 576G. Can an enthusiast tackle this job? Or should I just pay the $150 for tech place to do it?

Here's the video often used for most of the E5-5xx series as well as others. They're similarly constructed except the top cover on yours may not be as easily separated from the keyboard. Jack E/NJ
