The laptop used to have two drives - SSD where the OS is, plus a 1TB HDD. I mistakenly used Intel Rapid Storage Technology. It created a RAID 1 volume. The 1TB HDD is missing from my drives and I can't use it for storage. Tried entering BIOS, but set up does not allow to change from RAID to Non-RAID. Please let me know how I can restore the laptop back to two drives.

  • You have transformed the other unit into a recovery unit. Are there important files on the other drive?

    The HDD? No. All the files have been wiped out anyway when the raid volume was created.

    It's a bit of a big hammer, but you can pull the drive out, sick it in an external USB enclosure and wipe and format it on a different system. That will get rid of the special RAID info that's on it now...

    I had that idea in mind, but was hoping there will be another way without messing with the hardware. It looks like that's my only route. Thank you!
  • You can try to enable safe boot in msconfig and uninstall intel rapid storage. Then you can change the sata mode to ahci in the bios. That way, the blue screen would not appear and the two storage units will appear.

    @egydiocoelho
    I have the same problem with my SF315-51C.
    Looking at the various threads, I know that you have been patiently helping many people.
    Intel RST has been troublesome over the years.
    My question:
    ) I am not able to change SATA mode from RAID to AHCI - not with ctrl + S, tab + Fn. Supervisor password, A.  Bios is ver 1.05
    without being able to do this, I do not yet want to uninstall Intel RST.

  • I asked the moderator if there is any way to change the sata mode on this model.
