Hi all,

I just recently bought my laptop from Amazon (1 month) and have come into this issue where after I fully shut down the laptop it will not start back up right away and when it does the bios clock is off. Today it is off by 3 hours so I have to manually go into the bios or use Windows to sync the time. Does anyone else have this issue? I have 1.11 bios and it also did it on 1.10.

I have reset the bios to factory defaults and still same issue where it has trouble booting and the clock is out of sync by hours.

Well I have changed my laptop power settings to high performance and so far the bios time has stayed in sync over the last few days. Not sure if this is the solution.

Well today I got the error where my laptop would not boot while plugged in. I pulled the power from the side and it beeped then the clock was off 3 hours. This is annoying to keep going into the bios to set the time properly. I think it has to do with sleep or hibernation even though it is off.
  • Is your model the a315-32? Have you tried to reset the battery?

315-52 2019 helios 300 model and nope I have not yet, I have looked up on it. I should give that a shot. I was also thinking of going back 2 versions of the bios as I did update it 2x since I bought it.
  • What is the exact model? Example AN515-51-75KZ.

  • Probably the CMOS rtc battery must be low.

PH315-52-78VL made 6/18/2019, I have only had this for 1 month and purchased from Amazon.ca
  • OK! Do the following:
    a) disable fast startup in the power options and restart windows:
Enable This Setting to Make Windows 10 Boot Up Faster
    b) then, disable fast boot in the bios main options and click on save and disconnect:
Aspire 5 A514-52 - BIOS SATA Optane mode missing- ONLY have AHCI
    c) then, reset the battery again:

After a number of days of testing I think fastboot was the issue because after I turned it off everything boots correct and the bios time stays in sync. I did not reset the battery.

I had tested shutting down the laptop on battery/plugged in and turning it on via battery/plugged in to see if that also could have been an issue with the system not fully shutting down because it seems to me it was going into hibernation and that would make it get out of sync.
  • OK! Keep testing for a while and then accept my answer.

Nevermind spoke too soon, my laptop is doing it again for 2 days in a row. Right now it is 8:49 PM Eastern and bios showing 10:09 AM same day. The keyboard lights flash then it stays black for 30 seconds before it boots and the bios time is out of sync.

I started it up on battery. I do not see where the reset is on the 2019 model so the battery reset is something I still need to do.

Everything else works fine but this is just an annoyance.

I have reset the battery by holding down the power button so I will report back in a few days or so after more testing is done.
  • In this model, it is necessary to turn off the notebook, disconnect the power adapter and press the power for 12 seconds.

Well I still have not found the solution and this past weekend I shut it down Friday morning and when I went to use it Sunday night the bios said my time was Friday June 19th at 3:40 am so I give up as everything else works except at random times the bios wants to not start properly and gets out of sync. I can still use it no problem but just find it annoying when I have to reset the bios time.
  • I believe that this problem is easy to solve. Just change the cmos rtc battery, see:

Well the issue has now gone away and the only thing that I have done is I keep the laptop plugged in when its not in use. I recently went away for a week and the issue did not come back while on the battery too.

I had updated the bios when 1.12 came out but never changed the CMOS battery and laptop still has the issue of not being able to boot right away. Today it just kept blinking the lights on the keyboard and finally booted as the power had drained because I accidently let it run on battery all day.

Overall I am satisfied with the laptop except for when it wont boot right away then the bios clock becomes out of sync by hours.

Do you have OS other than Windows 10 on your PC? Each time I switch to Linux and return to Windows, the clock will be out of sync but no significant boot time delay. Just Adjust Date/Time and Set Time Automatically will get it back.

If you have replaced the CMOS battery, reset the laptop battery and the problem persist, then I'll say it is the problem with the BIOS. Since replacing CMOS battery is cheap and easy( hopefully you don't need to unseat the whole motherboard), I would suggest you change it.

When the problem first occur, your laptop was under warranty. Now, the one year warranty period expired, unless you have the extended warranty plan.

Nope I only have Windows 10 installed. I will try the CMOS battery to see but it is just a random occurrence that the keyboard light will flash and the laptop will take a while to boot and then the bios time will become hours behind once it boots. I bought it on Amazon without extended warranty.
