Front USB ports totally dead

They used to work on my Aspire TC-780.  Then they'd only charge a device, not transfer data.  Now when I plug in anything I get zero response.  The won't even charge an iPhone.  Device manager says everything is working properly.  See Device Manager display below.  Any suggestions?   Unrelated: The PC no longer recognizes the DVD drive either but I don't have much use for it.

The front panel connectors have cables that run between them and the motherboard. The connectors might have come loose or gotten corroded over time. Disconnect and reconnect them at the MB side to make sure they have good contact.

I opened the unit and removed the connectors and inspected them.  They all looked fine.  I replaced them securely and rebooted the machine.  Both USB front ports are still dead.  The fact that they both quit working at the same time leads me to believe there's some other root cause.  I don't have to have them as there are five USB ports in back but they are 2.0.  I was doing a backup of my system and after two full days I had only gotten to 24% hence the desire to get the 3.0 ports working.

I guess I didn't understand how Microsoft backups worked.  I had manually copied all my pictures and videos to the external 5 TB hard drive and then started the backup thinking it would skip over files that were already there.  The backup creates different folders resulting in duplicates.  I'm either going to have to continue to copy new files to the external drive manually or delete everything and start over with scheduled backups.

How old is your computer? Sometimes before a motherboard fail, there will be some little  problems here and there. I used a SIIG 7-port USB 3.0 card( powered by molex connector) plugged to my old computer's PCIE x1 port for 3 years until the motherboard totally failed.

Just a thought, in my desktop days, I occasionally had things act up and sometimes fefuse to boot because of dust on and under the MB. I would blow it out with a can of air, outside, and everything would work.

First, uninstall the “Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller – 1.0 (Microsoft) driver through "Device Manager" and reboot computer, see if that fixes the problem, because. USB problems are very rarely software related, its all hardware, it could be that your front panel 3.0 USB plugs are worn and or are not connecting or mainboard USB pin problems.

Narrow all these factors down and use a process of elimination, if the problem persists then buy a "PCI Express PCIE to USB 3.0 Card Adapter" which are pretty cheap like US $6.50.

The port directly under the Ethernet port is USB 3.0, the stack of four are USB 2.0.
