replace internal wifi network card or go for USB wifi adapter

Hello to all,

I have an Acer Aspire E15, E5-523-979H.

I recently lost my wifi connection on this laptop.  I have another Acer laptop and many other wifi devices that are all just fine.  I've tried everything over the past couple days including: trying all the fixes offered on the internet; downloading and reinstalling wifi & bluetooth drivers but my laptop still does not see my available networks.  I have a large house using a main router & 3 range extenders.  There isn’t a single reference to wifi in the Device Manager/Network Setting, nothing nowhere.  Last night I bit the bullet & reset windows hoping that maybe that would sort things out. Nope!  I am now assuming I need a new network adapter card and, as I’m not up for the challenge of replacing an internal card, I’ve been thinking of a USB wifi adapter.  My needs are simple.  I don’t play games; don’t download many videos.  What might be best without going overboard on something I don’t need?  Many thanks.

USB wifi adapter is plug in and install driver, Password, done.

Thanks so much for your response.  Yes, I am aware of the different devices but I know less about external wifi adapters.  A complicated procedure to install an internal network card “heck no”, but I am no longer up for the challenge and the nearest computer shop is probably an hour away.  I can order a USB adapter which would be so much more convenient.  Given my ignorance of USB wifi adapters, I thought I could pop in here and ask if anyone could give me an idea of what I should be looking for in a USB wifi adapter.
