Some specific keys working irregularly on Acer VN7-792G

Hello,

About three weeks ago some of the keys of my Acer VN7-792G suddenly started malfunctioning. I've used the laptop intensively every single day for over 4 years now, it still works fantastically and I never had a problem with it, that is, until now.

The problem is as follows:
The W, E, R, Y, K, L and Enter Key work irregularly. All other keys are functioning properly. At times everything is fine, but most of the time they don't register my keystrokes on the first try. Sometimes it's worse than at other times. After maximally five or so tries it catches on, and sometimes immediately prints two of my keystrokes at once, as if there's a small lag.
Also, I think I've noticed that either all of said keys work ór they do not; it seems to function as a whole.
Holding down any of said keys continuously (while in a text editor for example) produces a pattern of irregular bursts of the key being printed; sometimes it prints one at a time, sometimes entire lines are printed just fine. Strangely enough I have a feeling that once it has ''caught on'' and it starts printing continuously (like it should), the keys will function properly for some time afterwards just typing normally.
I've also noticed that sometimes function key combinations with said keys don't work: let's say that I can type 'e' reliably (as sometimes happens), but then I will suddenly have a hard time capitalizing it ('E') by holding shift, there is just no output, while capitalising any other letter (other than said keys) will work fine. In other programs I noticed the same when using some cltr+'one of said keys' combination.
I've had times where said keys didn't work properly in bios (/uefi).
Sometimes it doesn't function properly the moment I start typing my password to sign in.

What I have tried:
Cleaning keys of my keyboard (there is no apparent dirt underneath them). Cleaning one side of the keyboard connector by opening up my laptop. I just pulled the connector out, blew on it, put it back in, repeated a couple of times. Updated my bios. Ran virusscanners. Cleaned up junk files on my computer like I regularly do. Booted into safemode, same problem occurred there after some time. Uninstalled keyboard drivers (multiple times). Reset battery by pressing that small button underneath the laptop with a pin for some time. Filter Keys is turned off.

What have I not tried:
Cleaning other side of the keyboard connector. I do not have a system backup, so no restoring that. Reinstalling windows. Trying an external keyboard, unfortunately I don't have one on my hands right now.

My ideas:
I honestly have no idea what could be causing this. Interestingly enough I found one person on another site on a forum from 2016 who mentioned the exact same (letter) keys not working properly either, but his was an acer aspire 4739. He received one generic answer but he didn't confirm if it solved his problem. I tried contacting him but (unsurprisingly) to no success.
The fact that the keys sometimes work seems to indicate that it's a software problem I think, I can't imagine the connector working and then not working, changing almost from second to second. In addition, the non functioning keys are sort of spread out, i.e., I don't think they collect as a group in one single 'subconnector' that could be dirty. Also, I suspect the aspire 4739 to have different internals.
However, the fact that in safeboot mode or even in bios it sometimes didn't seem to work, indicates it is in fact a hardware problem (right?).

Alright, that was a bit long but I figured I would be specific so you know exactly what's going on. I've never asked anything on forums before (I hope I'm doing this right lol), this is kind of my last resort haha. Thanks a lot in advance for any suggestions!

  • It is probably a problem with the keyboard. What happens when you reset the battery?
Also, I found this version of the bios for the specter and meltdown and it probably won't solve the problem: https://global-download.acer.com/SupportFiles/Files/Firmware/Update/VN7-792G_BIOS_110.zip

Nothing happens when I reset the battery, same problem simply occurs again. Thanks for the bios update btw, I didn't have that one yet. The keys seemed a little better for some time after updating, but then it just went back to how it was.
  • Have you opened your notebook and checked the keyboard connections?

Yes, like I said in the first post:
