Hi there, I have an Acer Extensa 2540-5140 (NX.EFHEK.010) and wish to upgrade the Ram to 16GB. It has 4GB atm and I know it can take 16GB so I was hoping I could just buy the upgraded ram off one of the usual suppliers but I can't find my exact model listed and when I use those compatibility check things they return no results. Is anybody able to a link to something compatible I can buy, I know they'll be about £100 or thereabouts, not bothered about the cheapest as long as its reasonable.

I was googling, as you do, and came across this thread but it doesn't link to the one he ended up with https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/575347/ram-compatibility-acer-extensa-2540

Many thanks

    Do this:

Go to cmd prompt, right-click the top result and select the Run as administrator option to find out your laptops "Total system memory capacity" type the following command to determine the total physical memory and press Enter: systeminfo | findstr /C:"Total Physical Memory"

Also for "Checking all memory details" type this in:  wmic memorychip list full

    The Extensa 2540 (DDR4) maximum memory is 32G it has 2 slots (2 banks of 1) and comes with standard memory of 16GB removable. You can put up to a 32GB kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 SODIMM - DDR4 PC4-25600 • CL=16 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-3200 • 1.35V • 2048Meg x 64

See here for the full array of ram and ssd’s that you can upgrade to: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/acer/extensa-2540-%28ddr4%29

Hi there thank you for replying, I know it has 4GB atm and I understood it could take up to 16GB and that these were DDR3? I was really hoping for a link to something compatible, if I look on that website there seems to be hundreds of options!

    Your best and safest option(s) are the 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 SODIMM - DDR4 PC4-21300 • CL=19 • Single Ranked • x8 based • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-2666 • 1.2V • 1024Meg x 64  or if you want a gaming ram then use the  Crucial Ballistix SODIMM 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Gaming Memory (Black) - DDR4 PC4-21300 • CL=16 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-2666 • 1.2V • 1024Meg x 64 but this applies to all ram manufacturers as they have standard ram and gaming ram, its up to your budget as both are good ram

    DDR4-2666 SODIMM - DDR4 PC4-21300  "Standard"

    DDR4-2666 SODIMM - DDR4 PC4-21300 Gaming (Black)

Hi thanks again, doesn't this laptop require DDR3 ram rather than DDDD? That was the issue in the thread I linked to in my first post  and also the spec of the machine says it's DDR3 too?

I was thinking that either of these would do the job?
