Microphones not working

I have an Acer Aspire R5-47IT and and Aspire E5-475 LAPTOPS. Neither responds to a 3.5 mm microphone now. Updated drivers, uninstalled last version of windows 10 update, spent 4 hrs with a computer tech, reviewed countless videos and support articles online and still no answers. Noticed that in Privacy settings for microphone, my Bitdefender is now alerting me that Windows Host Process (Rundlle32 & Svchost.exe) is consistently accessing my microphone since this last update and that was never the case before. What is this and could it be blocking the 3.5 mm input microphone. Note- USB mic connection still works. Please Help!!
In a time when we need our mics working properly more than ever, this is super frustrating.

What brand & model headset(s) have you tried? Jack E/NJ

Nicana and PwerDeWise Lav mics. Both TRRS and slated to work with Windows

Have the mics in these lavs ever worked in any device? Jack E/NJ

Yes. I just managed to get them working on the Aspire E5-475 Only through selecting Headset (not Line in or Microphone) in the imput prompt through Realtek Audio Driver Manager. I just did a factory reset on my other ACER and still does not respond through audio jack...seems to need that prompt to even detect. Now I cannot find a recent version of Realtek Driver to install to see if I can recreate the success. This really seems to be a driver issue through the combo jack. Any suggestions?

Yes, the lavs are headsets by definition with the mic.

With the R5, try right clicking on the speaker icon in the tray without a lav plugged in. Then click on recording devices and inspect the box that pops up. Should show the internal microphone. Then a minute or two after plugging in a lav,  do the same thing. What do you see in the box that  pops up now? Jack E/NJ

If I right click that Icon the only options I get are:
    Open Sound settings
    Open Volume Mixer
    Spatial Sound
    Troubleshoot sound problems

Actually managed to record sound out of it through Audicity again through selecting headset with realtek jack setting options, when it pops up (which is intermittent). Tried to get the sound coming through on Zoom and no dice. Now I can't get the audicity to pick up the mic...so frustrating. All the hardware is working

Does audicity pick it up again if you reboot? Jack E/NJ

Okay seems it's working now, but only if the Audio Manager window comes up and lets me select "Headset" input. Works 50% of the time when I plug in a 3.5mm device. IF not then I have to go into control panel and search for the Manager and once it comes up it works..usually until I reboot my laptop. Any idea how to work around this inconsistency?

If it was my machine and if the slightly inconvenient workaround actually works, I wouldn't risk any further software or hardware tweaks due to the possibility of creating adverse side effects somewhere else. You might want to try iobit's DriverBooster freeware to see if it'll can pick up any audio updates but make sure SystemProtection is turned on ControlPanel's restore point app before you do.
