I'd like to install a 2.5" SATA SSD into a TC-865 desktop computer. Will I need an adapter?

You actually have an M.2 slot on the motherboard for an NVMe SSD, it might have Intel Optane memory in it right now. If you swap the Optane out for a SSD and move your boot and OS to that drive you'll get a better speed increase than you would with just adding a 2.5" SSD. If you have your heart set on a 2.5" SATA SSD (or have one already and don't want to spend anything more if you can help it) then yes, you just need one of those 2.5" to 3.5" adapter brackets. There are mounting holes on the drive plate for two 3.5" drives.
Click on "Like" if you find my answer useful or click on "Yes" if it answers your question.

Thank you.  The NVMe SSD’ are new since last time I had a new computer.  I’ll look into it!
