Adapt Display Port input on my V277U bmiipx monitor to DVI-I output on my Sapphire Radeon HD 3870

I have an 8-year-old custom PC with some upgrades that uses a Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 video card with 2 DVI-I (dual link) output ports. I know that the DVI end of a cable or needs to be pin-end or male, but I can't understand how to specify the 'gender' of the end of the adapter that accepts the Display Port cable that came with the monitor. I believe that I should also specify 2560 x 1440 resolution to get full benefit of the quality of the monitor. Am I missing anything else?

    There is no way to passively convert DVI output (computer/source) to DP input (monitor). There are active adaptaers available, but they are scarce and price is high (usually from US$40) and most likely will be limited to 1080p. You should be able to use decent DVI-HDMI converter (some support bandwidth upto 1.4 HDMI version guidelines) to use this monitor at 2560x1440. Below average DVI-HDMI converter will only achieve 1920x1080.

You should be able to use decent DVI-HDMI converter (some support bandwidth upto 1.4 HDMI version guidelines) to use this monitor at 2560x1440. Below average DVI-HDMI converter will only achieve 1920x1080.

    I purchased a DVI-HDMI converter. I get the message "Input not supported." I downloaded what I thought were driver files but they don't appear to be ZIP files. I see instead a "Security Catalog," an "ICC Profile" and a "Setup Information" all as compressed files that WinZip does not recognize

     Is there a discussion of this problem somewhere on the site that tells me how to get the latest Acer monitor drivers?

    The adapter is described as:

    DVI Female to HDMI Male Video Adapter

    I have a cable coming from the video card that terminates in a male DVI connector; the monitor has a HDMI female input connector hence the male HDMI on the adapter.

    Yes, that one is just backwards I believe. You have a DVI output on your computer and want HDMI as the input into your monitor. The correct adapter is going to have a male DVI and a female HDMI. You will plug that onto the DVI port on the computer and use a normal HDMI cable to then connect to the monitor. The correct one is going to be more expensive, somewhere in the $40 range, because it needs to be active, so have it's own smarts built in. It's too bad the manufacturers and vendors don't make it more clear. "perfect choice when needing to convert your HDMI cable to be usable with a DVI connection" means they are converting the HDMI signal to DVI on the monitor...

    I think I understand. Just getting the 'gender's of the connections correct does not guarantee a working connection. My video card has a female port for DVI so a male-male DVI cable left me with a male DVI to match. The monitor has a female HDMI connector, so I reasoned I needed a male connector.

    Finally I understand that the Acer monitor will work with the machine I am transitioning to; if I want it to work temporarily with my older tower, I need an active cable (you made this point earlier and it did not sink in.) I don't think I can justify $40 to come up with what I see as a solution to a short term need.

    The Acer monitor seemed to work fine with the new Game PC machine, but I only used it to boot into Win 10 to see if it was functioning, not how well it was functioning.

    My desire for an economical way to connect the 2008 Radeon card with the 2020 is 'pie in the sky' but now I understand the truth and I have the sense to accept the truth and move on, however grudgingly.

    There is no such thing as an "active" dvi/hdmi adapter. They are basically the same signal except for dvi not supporting audio.

    It's possible the adapter is bad. I can suggest using a DVI/HDMI cable instead of the adapter. I always try to cut down on any adapters I use and make sure I use cables instead.     I've not seen any replies to my question about a driver from Acer for the V277U bmiipx monitor. See my post of 4/30/20 in which I asked:

    At this point there are two conflicting points of view. I would like to believe the most recent post, that the adapter I'm trying to use is faulty. Please, are "active" adapters for DVI/HDMI protocols 'seriously real and necessary" or are they a "myth."

    If you right click on the setup information file it should give you the option to install. But it shouldn't change anything.
