My fan was getting quite loud while idling so i checked it for dust and there was a small amount but then i noticed then pin connector for the fan (on the motherboard) looked broken although the connector would still attach, could broken pins have made fan louder and would it need a motherboard replacement?

No its the actual fan, I would replace the OEM fan as its very cheap and the V3-771G is getting a bit old and is about due fo a new fan! I've got a V3-571G with the NVIDIA GT 730M and I've extensively upgraded this laptop e.g. changed fans, changed to an SSD, upgraded RAM to PC3-14900 at 8GB, CPU from an i7-3610QM to a i7-3840QM and extensively increased case cooling, as these Acer Aspire V3 laptops are known to overehat and need allot of TLC (tender loving care) lol my advice is, be safe and change the cooling fan.
