Please help, My Acer Aspire 5 A515-51 563W Laptop turns on but the blue led on light is not lite. The blue led power light is lite when adapter is in use. I installed a new Mother board for this model. All works fine ecept the blue led on light is not lite. Usb ports work fine. What could be the problem? I installed new mother board because the unit was completely dead. Thanks ,edward

    >>>On[e] lights Adapter battery charge. The one that indicates unit is turned on doesn't. >>>

The battery charge should have two LEDs on the mainboard. An orange LED (indicating battery charging) and a blue LED (indicating battery full). Both should be aimed at a single piece of plastic lens in the top cover to indicating battery charging(orange) or battery full(blue).

The other plastic lens in the top cover is for power on. It should be lined up with a third LED on the mainboard It should also be a blue LED (indicating power on). I don't think your new mainboard has this blue LED.

So I think your old mainboard probably has one orange and two blue LEDs. But your new mainboard probably only has one orange and one blue LEDs for battery only. No blue LED for power on..

If it was my laptop and if the only problem with the new mainboard is the side blue power on LED does not light, I would be happy. Changing the mainboard is very risky and can cause other more serious problems. I'm impressed that you only had what seems like a minor power on LED problem to me.

Are you talking about the power button's blue LED or the side panel's power blue LED? Jack E/NJ

IOk. On the side of the laptop where the USB ports are that are part of the function board and where the adapter jack is located are two leds . One is for the battery charging port that when the adapter is plugged in is either orange or blue depending on the batttery charge . That one is fine ; howeve, there is another LED right next to that one that lights blue when the unit is turned on whether the unit is powered by the adapter or battery. That is the one that is not lite.  Otherwise ,the computer works fine.

Are you sure that a side power blue LED or its connection to the new mainboard even exists anymore? Some newer mainboards only use the power button blue LED, no side power blue LEDs any more to save space. Jack E/NJ

The motherboard is the exact same part number as the one that was replaced and it is a new one. I double checked all of the connections on unit for lose or unconnected cables and they are all connected and secure.   So I don't know . I cannot find a On/Off power switch or board on this unit as I can on my Dell or HP. I did have to replace a LCD display cable as the one that came with  unit broke when removed from faulty MB but that part # is the exact same pt # of cable that came with unit. Unfortunately Acer does not offer an online service manual as does Hp or Dell . That make it really difficult to locate parts on Acer units. I have no Idea how to repair his problem. thanks

The mainboard's specsheet  does not show the side blue LED or its connector. Do you still have the old mainboard? And can you see the actual side panel power blue LED device itself and how it's connected to the old mainboard? Jack E/NJ

There is no connector from the led s to the motherboard. on the old Mb or new MB . When i remove the function board where leds are located there are two pieces of plastic imbedded in the top cover or I guess Palmrest where the key board is. The on/off button is part of the keyboard. On the keyboard the on/off button is about an inch from where the LEDs are located on the side of unit . There are no connectors from the MB or function board connected to them. The function board just sits on top of them and has two screw that connect it to the MB while a cable from it connects to a connector on the MB which then has a cable from he same connector that goes to the touchpad. Otherwise, that's it

Look at the side battery charge LED that still lights up. If the embedded plastic in the top cover for the battery charge light also has no connectors, then it is likely simply an embedded lens, not the battery LED itself, that focuses light from a blue (battery full) & and an orange (battery charging)  LEDs on the mainboard.  So it's possible the plastic power LED in the top cover is also just a lens, not the blue power LED itself, that focuses light from a blue power LED on the mainboard. Very good. Both Leds are located  right next to each other embedded in the top cover. On lights Adapter battery charge. The one that indicates unit is turned on doesn't. Bot though are just pieces of plastic embedded in top cover.  Again thanks.
