    Two things to check:

    - Make sure that you have the proper VGA driver installed on your Windows 8 system - this will determine whether the graphics device is working properly or not, which could effect the video out signal.

    - Make sure that you have set the proper resolution for the monitor that you have connected to the video out.  Improper resolution can result in stretched or blurry images on screen.  The monitor that you have connected determines the native resolution.

    Hi HolyDrive,

Thank you for your prompt response.

-Do I need to manually install any VGA driver, I thought this is part of Windows 8. The VGA is a Intel HD Graphics. When I press the button "update driver" in the Intel HD Graphics subsystem, it reply it's the latest.

-As for the resolution for the monitor, I choose the highest which is same what I did for my window 7 Acer laptop whcih works fine with teh same external monitor.

What do you suggest next thing to do?

Windows can, and often does, automatically install a driver for any device that your system has if it is able to, but those drivers usually are not as good as the specific drivers that the system manufacturer may have for your system.

As such, you would want to go here, look up your model of computer, then download and install the VGA driver that is offered.

Your second option would be to contact Intel and see if they offer any drivers on their site for download that would be more suitable than the default Win8 driver.

Recent went to Acer service center. My Windows 8 notebook can work perfectly with Acer external monior. Proven nothing is wrong is VGA driver. Suspect root cause of the problem is the device driver file vx2423w .icm which is located in C:\windows\system32\spool\driver\color.  I have a window 7 Acer Notebook which can work perfect with the same monitor. I noticed that in windows 7, it donesn't use monitor manifacrure's own driver, instead use only microsoft generic driver. Search driver on Viewsonic monitor, but can't find anything. The model is no longer produced in Viewsonic.  Contact Microsoft, they refuse to help me as they said window 8 is pre-installed by Acer and thus they shoudl be responsible. But Acer says it's  not their hardware problem, and so they can't help further.

Any idea what should I do next? Thanks you.
