Do you need a BIOS upgrade for i7-9700 cpu on n50-600 eb11?

Hi I have a Nitro n50-600 eb11 and I've seen that it can handle an i7-9700 CPU. Question is, do I have to upgrade the BIOS (currently at R01-A2) before I would install or can my current BIOS handle it?

    Hi,

Accepts a cpu i7-9700, you don't necessarily have to update the bios, although it is always recommended.

    Regards.

    Good evening pipermac !

Physically there is nothing to prevent it, since the socket of both processors is the same.
I would only have to pay attention to the PSU issue (even having TDP) because the i7 has more power and a cooler processor.

As for updating Bios, they are extremely delicate and risky processes and should only be performed in serious cases of serious system errors or due to extreme need for correction or compatibility.

Otherwise, such a procedure should be avoided.
It is a consensus among all the specialists and publications recognized in the area.

    Hello @pipermac

I was always under the impression that i7-9700 is considered to be Coffee Lake Refresh   a/k/a  CFL-R

When I looked on Acer's website, it appears to show that you need to be running R01-C2 or newer to use a Coffee Lake Refresh CPU.

If you look at the release notes for the BIOS R1-C4, it mentions 19H2.   As far as I know 19H2 is referring to Windows 10 1909.

If you look at the release notes for the latest BIOS R01-D0, it talks about "enhanced system performance".   Can you see where I'm going with this?  :)  ;)  ;)

by "enhanced performance" I can only assume that it will make me last longer ;)
Serious note, I'm presuming that it would be best to update to R01-D0 if I was to be installing the i7-9700 seeing as I would need at least the C2 and one would think the D0 is better.

    Ha!
Yes, on a serious note, I would personally update to the latest BIOS if I had your computer model.   That's exactly what I was hinting at.  But I've reached the end of the BIOS versions.  R01-D0 is the latest. I can't throw you anymore hints.   :)

I opted to stay with my current cpu for fear of bricking my computer. I wish I could help.
