I tried connecting to a second monitor using the HDMI out port and DisplayPort connection and with a VGA connection however the display settings in windows 10 don't show a second monitor and the monitor status says input signal not found

There is an HDMI out port and an HDMI in port. Are you sure you're connecting to the right one? I believe the HDMI out is between the Ethernet and USB ports.

Thanks for the response billsey, yes you are correct the out port is between the ethernet and USB ports that is where I am connecting, (I did try the other port beside power connection and computer screen went blank looking for a signal)

OK, shut everything down then connect the external monitor. Turn back on and allow the full boot to happen. Press the Windows-P combination and select Extend. Does the second monitor wake up at that point?

    Hi DoughN:

    • Go to your PC’s desktop and right-click on any empty space.
    • Select Display Settings.
    • Scroll down to Multiple Displays and click Detect.
    • For a wireless monitor, click Connect to a wireless display under Multiple Displays.

A wireless monitor allows your PC or mobile device with Miracast capability to display our screen’s image to your monitor via a WiFi Direct interface. You can duplicate or extend your desktop wirelessly to the monitor and connect your mobile device through Dual Cast via WiFi (depending on your devices).

You can also choose the monitor order by clicking Identify. Windows will display number 1 and 2 on each screen, so this helps you know which one is which.

    • If you want your PC to be your primary screen, go back to the Multiple Displays section and check the Make this my main display box, or Use this device as the primary monitor.

Note: The primary/main screen will have your Start menu, clock, taskbar and other applications, but you can have them on both screens by right-clicking your Windows taskbar > Properties > Show taskbar on all displays.

    • Adjust the screen orientation and resolution accordingly, and save the new display settings by selecting Keep Changes.

    Personalize Your Monitor Display Order

Once the second monitor is connected and the display is attached, you can enhance and personalize it. There are different things you can do here including:

    • Showing the Start screen only on your PC and not the second monitor.
    • Setting taskbar preferences (right-click Taskbar > Settings > Taskbar preferences).
    • Personalizing your background image (right-click Desktop > Personalize and select images, themes or colors).

Note: Windows 10 has a new panoramic theme that allows you to span a panoramic picture across monitors. To do this, click Start > Settings > Personalization.

Click Browse to choose a panoramic image. Click Choose a fit > Span, and you’re all set.

Hit 'LIKE'if you find useful and give accept. :)

    Thanks.

Were the adapters separate cables, or did you use them same HDMI cable each time?

Tried different cables, the HDMI --> HDMI works from a laptop to the Aspire Z3-710 but not from Aspire Z3-710

Ah, it's probably an HDMI in port, not HDMI out. To hook up another monitor you'll have to get a USB dock with video out.

Ah,the second photo didn't show on the first post. We need to look at the cables then. You say you have HDMI to VGA and HDMI to DP? Are you sure they aren't VGA to HDMI and DP to HDMI?

I am having the same problem with the Acer All-in one Aspire Z3-710 with both the HDMI-out port and HDMI-in port on the back.

I have an HDMI cord (same HDMI connector on both ends, no adapters to VGA or DP). I can display from my laptop or Chromebook to the Acer using the HDMI-in port, but the HDMI-out port to display from the Acer out to the second monitor doesn't work. I get the error message pictured below in the display section of the Control Panel. I checked the Drivers for the monitor and graphics card, and they are current.

Thank you for any help you can provide,
    KathyB

@KathyB it looks like that HDMI-Out connector is soldered directly onto the motherboard, so there's really nothing to come loose. Does it look like the connector is crooked in it's plastic? It sounds like the cable just isn't getting good contact, which should be mechanical, but with it soldered in it's tough to be misaligned enough to not work.
