My Predator is overheating while charging with battery over 40%

The laptop overheats randomly when idle, the temperature rises up to 90°C then goes back to 50-65°C(before the problem the temp was  40-45°C). When using the browser it goes up to 70°C and while gaming it just go crazy it reached a max of 106°C on low settings  with a game that runs normally on ultra settings with a temp of 65-70°C(Game is Heroes of the Storm). I can not even use google Hangout without reaching 85-90°C. At first I thought the problem was the thermal paste or cooling system, I checked myself and then had it checked by a pro and nothing...... Afterwards I noticed the problem persisted only when it was charging and the battery  was over 40%. I tried to look online but couldn't find a solution, I want to know if I can fix this myself or if I should have it fixed by a professional.
Model: Predator PH315-51 i7-8750H 24GbRAM (bought in August 2019)

    Yes, nothing changes

  • When you limit the processor to 99% on power options, do you still overheat?

Yes, I still overheat. There was a tiny improvement at 70%, but the temp was still jumping now and then and it only improved by 5°C so it's still overheating.

I repasted it, thought it was the problem so I did it again. I was already using Undervolt before it happened and it did improve the temperature, but as of now it's not improving anything. It's weird because it's perfectly working while using the battery.

MagnumXI its completely normal because on battery it will not turbo boost neither the gpu will overclock i suggest you to repaste it again seems to me its a bad repaste get some kryonaut or similar (dunno which thermal paste you used) and use the spread method only a thin layer covering both diodes its enough too much paste its bad also make sure you dont have any thermal pad damaged (as they are there not only to reduce the vram chips temps nothing to do with cpu/gpu temps but also to level the heatsink) and make sure your heatsink its not bent in any way that would be really bad as it wouldnt touch the diodes properly for heat transfer another issue i noticed your ram its not working in dual channel you should have either 2x4 2x8 or 2x16 24gb its not dual channel i would remove it and keep 16gb dual channel only also never game on battery (you will damage it) and make sure the battery its alwasy 100% charged before you start any games on AC as the adapter starts to recharge it when it reaches 40% and it cannot do both provide power to the cpu/gpu and charge the battery at the same time

The battery main purpose its to provide the adapter with more power when this one cant provide enough only use it on emergency and really light works apart from that always on AC whne the battery reaches 40% stop everything that youre doing and let it recharge to 100% first before you keep going also bare in mind the more usb devices you have plugged in the more the battery will drain (as the adapter cannot power all at the same time so the battery kicks in) this also goes for external displays

Thank you  for the information, but that's  not the problem. I do know that it's normal that the temperature rises, my issue however is that it rises at random and while using programs such as Osu(+30°C) and I think it's pretty obvious that it isn't normal. The issue started 2 weeks ago, before that everything was fine, I had some thermal paste issues changed it and it worked, I did undervolt and it worked, I used some extra fans and they did their job.
And now I have this weird problem. Do you think the RAM affected it, because I used it this way for a month and had no issue.
    Thanks for answering

MagnumXI the ram doesnt affect any temps only improves the performance if used in dual channel also have you tried other games to see if the issue persists including latest as it might even be a not properly optimized game issue as its the case with many games also have your optimized your windows and if its thermal spikes they are normal whats not normal its if its constant and please don not reject any answers as we will get points deducted from it (we dont work for acer were just here voluntary to help in whatever we can the best way we can) if you dont find it helpful please leave it as it is and only accept as solved if you think its fixed with that particular  answer(s) provided :)

I HAD EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM

This is not a hardware problem or thermal paste or charger problem - there are non malicious corrupt files on your pc

You will need to run services.msc in start menu, and click processes in the top tabs. The apps running huge amounts of cpu load will show on top and from there you can work out what exactly the problem app/service is

For me it was my print spool service, you will need to services menu and stop the printspool service, open c drive in my computer open system 32 open printers and scanners and clear FOLDER CALLED "PRINTERS". DONT DELETE THE FOLDER JUST THE CONTENTS- i had a few corrupted print documents that the computer would only try to resolve when plugged in (runs at higher performance when plugged in) and that was end of my problems!

Make sure to restart print spool service before closing services window or youll have trouble trying to print anything after

If its any service other than print service you will need to research how to locate corrupted files (where they can be found) and clear them in order to reduce background load on cpu when charger goes in! For eg. I typed "why does print spool service run at such high cpu usage" and went from there

Really hope this helps, let me know how you go guys!
