A similar problem I had was something to do with Silverlight...I had to re-install Silverlight and then movie maker worked...I don`t know if this has anything to do with your issue but just a suggestion to check Silverlight...there are several versions.

I'm 'having the same problem running Movie Maker. It has been working but now I get an error "Sorry, Movie Maker can't start." I have an Acer Aspire 5745 with the Intel HD Grafics video with Driver 8.15.10.2119 4/21/2010, when I check for the Graphics Driver Update there is not an Acer Update and the Intel Site indicates this is a custom computer manufacturer driver and Intel does not suggest an update. I have uninstalled a recent Silverlight install that did not change anything.

Would like to find a solution for this.

I found the newest Intell Driver 'Win7Vista_64_152257', 8.15.10.2827, 7/31/2012 worked to resolve this. Replaced the Acer original driver 8.15.10.2119, 4/21/2010 with this one. Movie Maker works now and do not see any problems.

    Download the Driver from: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/21777/a08/Win7Vista_64_152257.zip&lang=eng&Dwnldid=21777&DownloadType=Drivers&OSFullname=Windows+7+(64-bit)*

Unzip the files before updating the Driver. Then follow the steps to manually select driver from disk:

    7. Click on Update Driver button

    8. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software" option

    9. Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" option

    10. Click on Have Disk button

If you have an Intel processor running Windows 7, then you most likely have the Intel graphics wrapper, regardless of your graphics/video card.. If you see 'Intel graphics..' under the 'Display adapter' section in your Device Manager, then see this  Data_DumitruHirt's solution from http://communities.intel.com/message/168050#168050
