Acer Swift 3 SF314-56-52YM - Laptop keeps crashing after updating windows 10 to version 1903/1909

I am not sure if it is a problem with updating windows or hardware problem. But it happens recently after I have updated windows.

The laptop would just freeze suddenly and do not respond anymore (I have waited for about 20min). It happens even when it is not running any software(I have turned off background apps to test it). It only responses to function keys F6 and F8 (for toggling keyboard backlights and screen) and I have to hold the power button to restart the laptop. Upon restart, sometimes I would hear a sharp noise. 

I'm using Acer Swift 3 SF314-56-52YM

    Turn the laptop off. Remove charger. On bottom check for battery reset pinhole. Gently insert paperclip into hole for aboutt 10 seconds. Then plug the charger back in and test the machine. Jack E/NJ

    Thanks for the suggestion! The problem happens less frequently but it still happens once in about 2-3 hours

    If you think it's due to the update, open ControlPanel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point' in left pane. Click 'system restore' button. Click 'next'. Select restore point with a date/time stamp that coincides when the automatic update restore point was created. Jack E/NJ

    I didn't create any restore point before so I wasn't able to restore to previous state. I'll try to install ubuntu on my computer to see if it is window's problem.

    I'm not sure if the freezing problem happens at 4:40 or 5:16.
    For the 4:40 ESENT error the error message is "svchost (4320,R,98) TILEREPOSITORYS-1-5-18: Error -1023 (0xfffffc01) occurred while opening logfile C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log."

  • You should be based on the time when the problem occurs. I see that there are many mistakes. Did you try to update your video card drivers?

    The update should automatically create a restore point. Not you. Jack E/NJ

    Just got the freezing again and the same ESENT error showed up. I followed the instructions from https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/event-viewer-erro-esent-455-since-update-1903/624a2548-06e5-47f4-bb99-76d6412895a0
    I'll wait for a few more days to check if the problem still occurs or not.

    Re egydiocoelho: They are already up to date
    Re JackE: since the restore point was disabled by default, no memory space is allocated for storing such data so no previous restore point is created :(

    I suggest then that you enable system protection so that the automatic restore points are created. At least till you get this straightened out. Jack E/NJ

    Hi Khan26,

    Try to do power drain,

    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Unplug the charger. 
    3. At the bottom there will be a tiny pin hole with battery sign close to it take a pin or paper clip and insert into it hold that button for 20-30 seconds. Then turn ON the unit and check.
