System Restore Disc won't let me chose any option but ''Exit"

My Acer Aspire 5553 comes up on startup with ''Operating System not found'' I have put in the restore disc and it comes up to the options to restore to default or restore with data , I want to restore with data as my computer has very important college documents on it, when I insert the disc into the drive, it loads up to the options but will only allow me to click on EXIT I've tired pressing the navigation arrows and using the track pad, nothing with let me choose another option, what can I do as I really need the work ASAP,  I unfortunately can't afford to send it to a repairs shop.

    Sounds like you may have to...If the disks do not see a hard drive, then it will act like this. All the data may be gone. I'd talk to a local tech. BUT, if your computer is under warranty, at least the hard drive replacement will not cost anything.

    Hey, thanks for replying, it appears to recongise the disk as it comes up with language options and the disk is whiriling around in there, and it comes up "Windows is loading files" then the little Windows logo and ''starting windows'' comes up like there's nothing wrong, then this green Acre wizard type box comes up for me to select language, and that works fine, it's just the selecting any other option.
