I've discovered that the audio on my new Aspire XC-885 seems to be only stereo (2.0). I have tried updating the Realtek driver and checked all the cabling but my centre and sub-woofer make no noise.
Can someone tell me if this PC really does have 5.1 audio as advertised or in fact only 2.0 and this cannot be changed.

The onboard codecs support 5.1 but you have to jump through a couple of hoops to get it working. It's not obvious, but here's the way to connect:

It is also label inside the Realtek Audio Console.
