I plugged the monitor's USB C cable into the USB C port on my Asus SU510 laptop, but all I get is a stream of popups saying, "USB device not recognized." The monitor works fine when I plug it into my phone, so it is a problem with Windows. I downloaded the drivers, but it is not clear how to install it. In the old days, I would right click on the unknown device in the device manager, select upgrade drivers and browse to the drivers that I downloaded. However, unknown device never appears on the device manager. I tried right clicking on the inf and selecting install, but that doesn't help. Any way to get this working?

  • What is the model of your notebook? Example SF315-51-58VH. Also, can you enter the device idhardware?

    Asus Model S510UN-MS52

I don't know what you mean by device id. For the monitor? It never even shows up in Windows devices, so I can't get the Windows device ID.

Try to completely uninstall the USB driver(s) in 'Device Manager' and reboot your laptop, see if that retriggers your USB if not and as you have downloaded the driver (but, is it the correct driver?) has that driver got a .exe file? As updating drivers through device manager is the correct way to update but and if you have the wrong driver, then it won't work and it Won't update! Go to the Asus support site:
https://www.asus.com/au/support/ and see if there is a USB driver for your model.
