You rarely need a CDROM these days. There should be Brother quickstart directions for downloading any necessary chromeOS drivers via its website. Jack E/NJ

Hi Jack thank you for your response. I regret to say following my attempts i contacted brother who inform me the item in question isn't compatible. it only works with windows and mac os. i had a response from Acer today that simply advised me to travel to my computer shop and attempt connection with all the scanners. I know when i'm getting advice like that i am not really going to be successful. To expand further i bought the Brother scanner after travelling on a  two hour round trip via public transport to curry's after an hour of sales advice i was sold on the brother scanner. This was then discovered to be out of stock i was offered the display however opted for a new one . This arrived on Monday and the rest is history to be honest ive really had enough Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think whoever you talked to at Brother failed to mention it also works with Linux. This means it is a SANE-compatible scanner that should be able to scan directly to your Chromebook but you may need to download a SANE scanner app from Google webstore called 'scan'. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/scan/pmnllmkmjilbojkpgplbdmckghmaocjh?hl=en   I really don't know how good 'scan' is.

Another possibly easier way is to scan directly from the Brother to google drive via its own wifi connection, then download the scanned file (usually a PDF) from google drive to your chromebook
