Acer SB220Q - problems getting sound to work via HDMI

I'm having trouble getting sound on my Acer monitor via HDMI.  I've tried all the logical stuff: 1) Sound settings selecting "SB22Q Intel Display Audio"  2)Making sure sound works on Laptop (Dell Inspiron) by selecting "Speakers RealTek High Definition Audio".  3) Making sure the volume was maxed out on the volume mixer.
The manual lists an optional audio cable, so I figured that was a solution, however where the manual says the audio input is, there is blank space.   Also I thought HDMI passed audio as well as video.
Any help would be appreciated!

I don't see anything about there being speakers on this model. https://www.acer.com/datasheets/2018/4831/SB0/MM.TERAA.001.html

Thanks Bill, appreciate your response. Got this from my neighbor who said it had speakers, and he kept saying it did even as I pointed out it had no audio input, and nothing I could try would get sound, so I figured I was just missing something. Jess

It can get really confusing with some models, because they ship versions both with and without speakers and only change the last few digits of the model number.
