Any ideas on updating to Win 10 - 1903 on Gateway DX4860?

This thread was very helpful in getting one update thru...

After reading this thread, I was able to install the 1903 update.  Removed the WLAN card and it went thru the update without incident.

This thread seems to confirm that thread and provide a little more information.

As near as I can tell, when I finally took out the WLAN card and the most recent install went thru, I'm now running Windows 10- 1903, which is now failing to update the July cumulative fixes.  I've tried all of the "update fixes" like troubleshooter, using the on-line direct updater, removing antivirus software, disconnecting all peripherals, despite these efforts it still fails.  DISM didn't help, either.  Updated BIOS, almost catastrophic... won't do that again.

As it stands, the PC is running very well, especially for running a OS that is apparently incompatible and not supported with this model.  I will continue to try incrementally to get the update thru, but having to go back down the rabbit hole every time a Win10 cumulative update comes out is beyond frustrating.

Any other info that anyone has, this forum has definitely been the most help, please post here with anything that has worked for you.  Many thanks.

As an additional note, when i tried to update the Bios that failed, I had to revert it, which was difficult.  In the process of doing that, the on-board video card would not maintain it's driver update that came with the windows update.  It kept automatically "updating" to the "newer" driver version that didn't allow the on-board HDMI port to be identified.  I had been successfully running a Sony widesreen tv off of the PC, but because I had to continually "revert" the update to the previous driver to get it to work after the update, I purchased a supported video card with an HDMI port, installed it, and have been using it without incident since.  I'm now able to run the normal display and the tv as I used to before.

It is now October 19, 2019 and there is a new 1903 Windows cumulative update that is available.  The July 2019 update is still failing to install, so I have little hope that the newer October edition will ever make it on my PC.  It has failed literally dozens of times since my last post.  I have not gone down the rabbit hole again trying to find the reason for these failures after trying to update the bios that almost killed the pc in August.  The PC is running fine and I have no complaints about it's performance, yet the warnings that the OS is out of date are troubling to that Obsessive Compulsive portion of my brain that has always kept things up to date. ;)  I'm beyond disconnecting peripheral drives and components with every update at this time.  It fails by doing all of the suggested steps regardless of what actions I seem to take.  I have disconnected drives, printers, literally everything.  I have uninstalled ALL software including anti-virus and malware suites.  Nothing has worked.

I'm hoping someone will post another watershed idea like the LAN card disconnect.  Having a PC that is not part of the "supported" devices makes finding a cure, which I know there is, all that more difficult since most owners have likely just given up and purchased a new PC.
