Why is my memory running at only 2400MHz instead of 2666MHz? - Acer Nitro 5

I currently have a Acer Nitro 5 or AN515-53 with an i5-8300h and it came with 8gb of DDR4 2666MHz.  I bought another 8gb stick and now the speed is lower?

    I don't think it has to do with XMP, since the base clock speed is 2666MHz as well, and of course Acer does not have it in BIOS.

    You bought the wrong Kingston ram.  :(

    Your mistake was installing a 2666 mhz CL17 when your existing stick is CL19. Mismatched CL will work at the lowest in single channel instead of Dual Channel

    I found this Crucial ram on Amazon that will run @2666 CL=19 and work fine in dual channel with your existing ram and it's 5 bucks cheaper than that Kingston ram on amazon.

    Ones 19 and ones 17, a mismatched CL can't work on dual channel. CPU Z doesn't always get it right, Jack EN pointed that out to me when I had a similar problem

    From the screenshot above how did you get to know the :CL of each module. I have the same problem. Which number in the SPD table is the CL?

    you people are all wrong, its because your cpu only supports up to 2400 mhz, so you can put in 2666 but it will run at 2400mhz

    According to Intel, the i5-8300H supports 2666   (see link below)

    According to Acer technical documents, the memory BUS is 2400/2666 for the OP's computer model.  







    Here's userbenchmark, which can sometimes tell you what the ram is clocked @ (on someone else's computer).  Sometimes not.

    I did find someone over on userbenchmark using two sticks of DDR4 2666 and it clocks at @2666 according to userbenchmark.  So this leads me to believe that if you install the right part(s), you'll have no problem getting 2666 dual channel.....which is pretty much what I wrote in 2019.

    The OP (original poster) made the common mistake of mixing Kingston Hyper X enthusiast ram with his mainstream Industry Standard ram.  I suspect that is why he got downclocked to 2400.  As a general rule of thumb, it's frowned upon to mix mainstream industry standard ram with enthusiast ram.  In layman's terms, the OP's two sticks of ram wouldn't play nice together at 2666, but would play nice at 2400.

    How do I know that the OP was mixing Kingston Hyper X with his Industry standard ram?   
    Because I looked at his part# in his screenshots.   KHX=Kingston Hyper X
